Chapter 34: The Innkeeper
Xuanyuan Hongyu’s eyes flashed like blades as he roared angrily, “Bring your innkeeper here at once!” What kind of so-called ‘Number One Inn in the World’ is this? It’s all empty reputation and false praise!
The waiter trembled as he flung open the door and dashed away, nearly becoming a lost soul in the process. What had he done to deserve this? Had he forgotten to burn incense before leaving home that morning? Oh, Heavenly Deity, please protect him! He was still young and not ready to meet the King of Hell just yet.
The innkeeper, a bulky man whose sinews trembled, frantically waved a handkerchief across his forehead, face, and neck. My heavens, what a harbinger of doom they had found! Seeing the waiter’s terrified state, the innkeeper silently prayed, “Oh Heavenly Deity, your loyal servant begs for your mercy!”
With hurried footsteps, the innkeeper charged toward the private room. Throwing open the door, he immediately dropped to his knees. “Sir, please calm your anger! Have mercy!”
His corpulent body rolled swiftly across the floor to Xuanyuan Hongyu’s feet. Stretching out his pudgy hand, he tried to grasp the hem of Xuanyuan Hongyu’s robe, but before he could touch it, a gust of wind swept him out the door!
The fat innkeeper dared not utter a sound. He obediently lay on the ground, bowing his head repeatedly. “Sir, please calm your wrath! Sir, have mercy on your humble servant.”
A clear, youthful voice rang out like a heavenly melody. “You worthless sack of rags, what are you doing? Haven’t you seen the innkeeper already kneeling and admitting his fault? You’re so petty, acting like a woman.” Heaven only knew this line was from the script.
Upon hearing the little one call him effeminate, Xuanyuan Hongyu narrowed his eyes dangerously. With a flick of his sleeve, the innkeeper, still bowing and begging on the floor, was flung even further, crashing straight into the railing outside the private room.
Ling Wei sneered disdainfully, “Hmph, do you think you’re so impressive? Being right but unforgiving makes you no better than a villain!” Again, mere theatrical banter from the script.
Xuanyuan Hongyu shot a fierce glare at the groveling innkeeper, then grabbed the little one’s chubby hands, lifting her up. Eye to eye, nose to nose, he angrily bit her slightly upturned lips.
This little girl had no other talents, but when it came to irritating him, she was unmatched!
Ling Wei suppressed her inner aversion, pretending it was just a small black dog licking her. She didn’t care at all.
The innkeeper stopped groaning entirely, silenced by what he saw—the little girl cradled in the harbinger of doom’s arms. My heavens, wasn’t this the general’s daughter? How could she possibly be here?
Xuanyuan Hongyu noticed the innkeeper’s terrified expression and his mind raced. This fat oaf recognized the little one? Impossible. As far as he knew, the girl had never left the general’s residence. Something was amiss with this innkeeper.
With a spiteful bite on her tender lips, he satisfied himself by watching the little girl frown slightly. He adjusted his hold on her and glanced at the innkeeper, who hadn’t yet had time to compose his expression.
“Shut your filthy eyes!” Xuanyuan Hongyu said coldly.
The innkeeper shuddered all over and lowered his bulky head. “Sir, your humble servant was wrong. Please calm your wrath!”
Ling Wei tugged on the man’s purple robe and shook her head.
Xuanyuan Hongyu was about to speak but forced himself to stop. “Go prepare another dish!”
If it weren’t for the little one’s sake, he would have liked to try the fastest method of weight loss on this fat pig.
The innkeeper scrambled up from the cold wooden floor. “Yes, yes, I will prepare it at once.”
“You little fool, do you recognize that fat pig from earlier? He seems to know you,” the young man said casually as he toyed with the little girl’s glossy black hair.
Ling Wei shrank her neck, fearful that this pervert would discover the truth. She immediately shook her head. “I don’t know him. I have never left the general’s residence.”
