Chapter 43: Spineless
Zhao Meng wore a ferocious expression, showing no mercy as he rained blow after blow upon the enemy's eyes, left cheek, right cheek, and chin. Finally, he flipped the enemy over and drove a strike with ninety-five percent of his strength straight into the back of his head!
The leader of the retainers was battered until stars danced before his eyes, blood streaming incessantly from the corners of his mouth, until his eyes rolled back and he collapsed straight to the ground, unconscious!
Zhao Meng spat out a mouthful, as if venting his anger, and delivered a vicious kick that sent the retainer leader flying out the door. He swept his gaze around and spotted the Capital Magistrate and Master Counselor Wang looking complacently toward a certain spot. Following their line of sight, his eyes turned bloodred—these people had to die!
Little Taro, with her tiny arms and legs, was currently tangling with a robust retainer several times her size. Whether he was acting on orders from his superiors or simply seeking to toy with her, every time Little Taro launched an attack against him, he would step forward to restrict her movements, grabbing her hands with one and her feet with the other. His distorted face was full of wicked smiles as he ruthlessly hurled the little girl in his grip onto the floor!
Little Taro wiped the corner of her mouth and climbed up from the ground. Her wobbly little body managed to stand firm only by bracing in a horse stance. After taking a few heavy pants to rest, she charged at the enemy once more, only to be grabbed by her hands and feet yet again, slammed to the ground repeatedly, and yet still getting back up each time.
The Capital Magistrate and Master Counselor Wang watched the relentless actions of Little Taro before them, observing her as if watching a good show, akin to appreciating a splendid performance in a colosseum. The two of them leaned in together from time to time, roaring with laughter!
Mother Wang looked anxiously at her youngest daughter. Several times, her momentary distraction allowed the enemy to find an opening, leaving her injured as well. Her heart was filled with a mixture of pride and heartache; her daughter was truly strong.
With a leap, Zhao Meng landed before Little Taro, gathering the little girl—who could no longer stand straight—into his arms. "Little Taro, Uncle Zhao is here. Rest for a moment now. Prepare to meet your maker!" Little Taro looked at Zhao Meng's dark beard, gave a soft "Mn," and trustfully leaned into his embrace.
Zhao Meng's chest was filled with rage. He had not expected the Capital Magistrate to be such a muddle-headed official, sparing not even a little girl like Little Taro! It was simply too outrageous! Mindful of Little Taro in his arms, Zhao Meng unleashed a flurry of flying kicks that directly sent the retainer who had been toying with her vomiting blood! With one final supplementary kick, that fellow was rendered utterly incapable of standing.
Zhao Meng shouted toward the anxious-looking Mother Wang, "Sister Wang, what are you still hesitating for? Quickly knock this gang of shameless scoundrels unconscious! I'd like to see what the imperial court dares to do to our General's Estate!"
Mother Wang thought to herself that Zhao Meng made a valid point. Since these people had already forced their way to their doorstep, if the people of the General's Estate continued to abide strictly by the rules, they would likely only suffer in the end. Rather than that, they might as well let loose and fight unrestrained!
"Hear this, everyone of the General's Estate! Show no mercy! Beat these trespassers who broke into the General's Estate flat on their faces for me!"
This time, no one in the General's Estate uttered a sound, but their strikes and kicks became even more ruthless. The previously deadlocked battlefield instantly turned into a rout! The General's Estate knocked these dogs flat onto the ground, leaving the retainers groaning miserably in the dust, utterly devoid of the strength to rise again.
Mother Wang's phoenix eyes narrowed sharply as she leaped forward to intercept the Capital Magistrate, who was attempting to flee, along with Master Counselor Wang who was covering him. "Where do you think you are going? To the netherworld? I don't mind sending you on your way."
The Capital Magistrate instantly buckled at the knees, clasping Mother Wang's ankles and weeping mournfully, "Heroine, heroine, this is a misunderstanding! A misunderstanding!"
