“Rona, the guildmaster has passed out!” the healer cried toward Rona in the distance, tears clouding her eyes.

As Chiming had instructed earlier, should anything happen to him, command of the guild was to be handed over to Rona.

Rona ran over through the magical fireworks exploding across the sky. She glanced at the unconscious Chiming, gritted her teeth, and said, “Hill, take the guildmaster to the rear.”

“What about you?” the healer asked anxiously.

Rona looked toward Bash’s enormous body and answered without hesitation, “We’ll keep attacking this thing! Stop arguing and get the guildmaster somewhere safe!”

Everything Chiming had done was for the guild’s future. Rona could not bear to see his efforts go to waste, so they had to take his place and continue fighting.

“All right... Be careful.”

Hill could only nod before hoisting the guildmaster onto her back and retreating toward the rear.

At the center of the battlefield, Bash swept its tail across the ground, sending the knights surrounding it flying. Then, with its only remaining serpent eye, it fixed a murderous gaze upon Mo Xuanyu.

It was obvious that the creature had singled him out. After all, he was the only one who had truly injured Bash so far—he had even pierced one of its eyes.

Beside him, Mo Xiao gripped his longsword tightly, looking as though he intended to charge forward.

Mo Xuanyu reached out and stopped him. “Support me if necessary, but don’t engage it head-on. I don’t want you to die.”

With that, Mo Xuanyu ran into the distance, drawing Bash’s attention away.

Mo Xiao stood frozen in place. He watched Mo Xuanyu’s retreating figure, those words still echoing in his mind.

I don’t want you to die.

His teacher was worried about him.

“Captain! Our attacks aren’t doing anything!” Fars shouted.

Mo Xuanyu ran a full circle around Bash, searching for a weakness.

After examining it from every angle, he found that the only exploitable opening was the crack Chiming had created earlier.

The problem was that Bash had focused nearly all its attention on Mo Xuanyu. It completely ignored the magical attacks of the other Chosen, caring only about killing him and guarding against him more fiercely than anyone else.

And at present, Mo Xuanyu was the only one capable of leaping onto Bash’s back. None of the independent Chosen or the knights possessed such ability.

Mo Xuanyu twisted aside to evade Bash’s sweeping tail. Its terrifying force passed so close that it nearly grazed him.

Just as he brandished Mochou, a black figure suddenly sprinted up along Bash’s serpentine tail.

He leaped from the creature’s back and threw the two longswords in his hands one after another. Both struck Bash’s other eye with pinpoint accuracy.

Mo Xiao had chosen the perfect moment, but his strength was still somewhat lacking. It was practically impossible for this attack alone to blind Bash.

However, with the fifty percent burst-strength bonus granted by his swordsmanship specialization, Mo Xiao’s two blades still shattered the membrane covering Bash’s eye.

Bash was utterly enraged.

To Bash, these humans were nothing more than food. Yet one had blinded an eye, another had shattered its scales, and now someone had nearly pierced its remaining eye.

In a fury, Bash lashed out with its tail and struck Mo Xiao in midair, smashing him into a deep crater in the ground.

Before he was hurled down, Mo Xiao saw that Mo Xuanyu had successfully climbed to the vulnerable vertebrae at the base of Bash’s spine. Relieved, he let out a quiet breath.

As expected of his teacher... Even without discussing any plan, he could seize such a fleeting opportunity at the critical moment.

Squelch!

Mo Xuanyu drove the Nightmare Moon Blade down with all his strength. The blade instantly pierced the cracked scale and plunged deep into Bash’s body.

It was not over yet. Tightening his grip on the long blade, he swept it sideways, tearing a bloody wound across Bash’s back and severing several vertebrae. Dark-purple blood splashed onto the ground, hissing as it corroded the earth.

“Graaah!”

Bash let out a pained howl and rolled across the ground, flinging Mo Xuanyu away.

On a small hill not far from Bash, Luo Yan used wind magic to create a gigantic bow. Rona raised her staff and condensed a flaming arrow.

The two spells combined, and the arrow erupted with a blazing exhaust trail like a fighter jet. It shot forward at tremendous speed and, during the brief interval in which Bash rolled, struck its remaining eye with perfect accuracy.

Boom!

The flaming arrow exploded, blasting Bash’s other eye apart.

This completely ignited Bash’s fury. It began charging wildly through the ranks of the Chosen, paying no heed to the blood gushing from the wound in its back. It nearly swallowed Rona and Luo Yan whole.

Fortunately, at the crucial moment, a heavily armored warrior hoisted one of them under each arm and activated his tank skill, surging away at full speed. They barely escaped the creature’s abyssal maw.

The two exhausted mages finally breathed a sigh of relief.

“Gods above, it’s still not dead?!”

The other Chosen hurriedly scattered as well, terrified that the monster would swallow them in a single bite.

Of everyone present, the only person moving against the tide of fleeing bodies was Mo Xuanyu.

He sprinted toward Bash at top speed, his right hand clenched tightly around the Nightmare Moon Blade.

Weapon Trait: Feast. Once the blade is stained with blood, the particles within it become active. The wielder may temporarily extend the blade to a length of 1.2 meters, while continuously plundering the blood within other bodies that contains supernatural particles to repair the weapon.

As Mo Xuanyu activated the trait, the Nightmare Moon seemed to awaken. Patterns flickered along its surface as the blade gradually lengthened, transforming into a great cleaver.

Mo Xuanyu leaped from the ground and landed lightly on Bash’s back, driving the blade downward in the same motion.

Squelch!

The extended Nightmare Moon plunged deep into Bash’s wound. Mo Xuanyu then seized the hilt with both hands, giving Bash no chance to throw him off, and dragged the blade from the vulnerable vertebrae at its spine all the way to its head.

One slash, split in two!

Those nearby saw only a streak of black light flash across Bash’s skull. Then the upper half of its head burst apart down the middle, blood raining from the sky like a sudden downpour.

“So powerful...”

Rona and the others on the distant hillside were fortunate enough to witness the entire scene. They stared at Mo Xuanyu as he landed steadily, too stunned for words.

The moment he touched down, Mo Xuanyu tossed the Nightmare Moon into his storage space, then turned and ran toward the place where Mo Xiao had fallen.

He reached Mo Xiao, lifted his upper body, and drew him into his arms. Pale-blue mental energy surged like a rising tide, pouring continuously into Mo Xiao’s body.

With Bash’s death, the Chosen and the others erupted into cheers, their celebratory cries rising one after another. But none of that had anything to do with Mo Xiao.

His consciousness seemed to have sunk into the depths of the sea. There was nothing around him. Cold permeated his entire body, while endless darkness seemed intent on swallowing him whole.

In a daze, he felt his body being lifted. A warm palm pressed against his chest, and in an instant, all the cold was driven away.

“Wolf.”

“Wake up.”

Someone seemed to be calling to him, the voice soft and touched with worry.

Mo Xiao’s consciousness felt as though a gigantic hand had suddenly plucked it from the depths of the sea. His eyes flew open.

The person holding him was none other than Mo Xuanyu, the teacher he revered most.

“Teacher...”

Mo Xiao spat out a large mouthful of foul blood. His injuries were clearly severe.

“Looks like you’re still alive.” Seeing this, Mo Xuanyu smiled and wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth with his sleeve.

Mo Xiao’s consciousness was hazy. That smile seemed extraordinarily beautiful to him, as though it made even the bones in his body stop aching.

“Am I really still alive, Teacher?” Mo Xiao asked weakly, unable to believe it.

Mo Xuanyu nodded. “As long as I’m here, you won’t die.”

With the support of twenty points of Intelligence, his healing ability was already no weaker than that of a healer specializing in restorative magic. The only drawback was that it required physical contact during treatment.

Mo Xiao’s injuries were severe, but his experience had saved him. Before being struck by the serpent’s tail, he had shielded his vital organs with his arms, allowing him to survive until Mo Xuanyu killed Bash.

“Captain! The allied army has withdrawn!” Fars came running over.

This was within Mo Xuanyu’s expectations. After Bash’s rampage, the soldiers on both sides had nearly been scared senseless and were in no condition to continue fighting. Their retreat was hardly surprising.

[Sacred Geometry: The faction mission, Moon God River Defense Line, has ended. The Kingdom faction is victorious. Contribution points have been distributed according to combat participation.]

[You have received 6,000 contribution points. Current available contribution points: 7,001.]

[Due to your outstanding performance in this mission and your enormous contribution to the faction, you have obtained the following privilege.]

[Kingdom Army Contribution Shop: Thirty percent discount.]

Hm? How much?

Thirty percent off?

Did that mean he could exchange his points directly for a specialization scroll?

When Mo Xuanyu saw the words “thirty percent discount,” his mood instantly improved severalfold. Even the way he looked at Mo Xiao became noticeably gentler.

“You did very well. But next time, tell me before you do something like that. Understood?”

“Yes... I’ll remember.”

Mo Xuanyu’s sudden gentleness left Mo Xiao even more flustered. He nearly lost himself in it. Severe injuries? They were nothing worth mentioning!

After first helping Mo Xiao mend his badly fractured bones, Mo Xuanyu supported him to his feet. Around them, the soldiers were clearing the battlefield.

“What happened to the giant serpent’s corpse?” Mo Xuanyu asked Fars.

Fars gestured with his hands as he replied, “A red magic circle that big suddenly appeared on the ground and swallowed the serpent’s corpse.”

Mo Xuanyu immediately formed a guess. It was probably related to Bash’s identity as an infernal demon god.

Then what about the Ring Serpent?

Mo Xuanyu opened the tracking panel, but it showed no trace of the Ring Serpent.

[The target has left this world. The mark is no longer valid.]

From the prompt issued by Sacred Geometry, Mo Xuanyu could draw one conclusion: the Ring Serpent still was not dead.

That creature certainly had a lot of lives.

Meanwhile, on the allied army’s side, every member of the Black Serpent Guild chose to leave the world, effectively abandoning all rewards from it.

Eric slumped in his chair, one hand pressed to his forehead. The shadow Bash had left behind refused to fade.

Yet what astonished him even more was Mo Xuanyu, the man who had slain Bash.

Eric drew a deep breath. At that moment, he understood even more clearly just how great an influence Mo Xuanyu had on the course of the battle.

His jealousy toward the Solar King deepened.

Why? Why was his father always so lucky?

If only he had met Mo Xuanyu sooner!

Then Mo Xuanyu would certainly have pledged his allegiance to him!
