Volume One, Chapter 20: The Counterattack
“Kid, you dare to snatch a woman from Young Master Zhu? You must be courting death. Brothers, get him—cripple his legs.”
Immediately, several burly men jumped down from a few vans, each wielding clubs.
An ordinary person would have likely wet themselves from fear by now.
But they had no idea that the devil they were about to face stood right before them.
Several of the tough guys moved first, but Duan Wuhen remained motionless.
“Haha, this kid is scared stiff,” one brawler sneered.
Just as he thought the job would be a breeze, the next moment, he realized there was no more movement.
“Already subdued so quickly?”
Surprised, the thug turned around, only to see Duan Wuhen still standing calmly while his own men lay writhing on the ground.
“Your men aren’t much better,” Duan Wuhen said as he strode toward him.
Seeing Duan Wuhen approaching step by step, the thug panicked and backed away hastily.
Cornered against a wall with no escape, he begged for mercy.
“Big brother—no, great sir, please spare me. I have an elderly parent and young children depending on me.”
“Want me to let you off? Tell me, who sent you to cause trouble?”
“It was Young Master Zhu!”
At this point, the thug no longer cared about any code of conduct. Saving his own skin was paramount.
“Young Master Zhu? I didn’t provoke him. Why would he target me?”
“Well, it’s like this…”
The thug went on to explain the situation to Duan Wuhen.
Listening carefully, Duan Wuhen stroked his chin.
“Where is this Young Master Zhu now?”
“At the New City Bay Villa District!”
New City Bay Villa District? That’s where the Yan family lives.
It made sense—Young Master Zhu liked Yan Xiyue, so he’d naturally stay close to her.
“All right, you may go.”
The thug felt as if he’d been pardoned and scrambled to his feet, ready to flee.
But the next second, a cold glint flashed in Duan Wuhen’s hand, and the thug collapsed to the ground.
“I never said I’d let you go. I’m just making sure your next life is spent in a wheelchair.”
Before the thug lost consciousness, Duan Wuhen whispered softly.
Then Duan Wuhen set off toward the New City Bay Villa District.
Duan Wuhen’s principle was clear: a grudge must be avenged. He wouldn’t allow his enemies to live in peace.
—
Evening descended, the sunset casting a lazy glow.
Duan Wuhen arrived on foot at the New City Bay Villa District.
To avoid alerting the snake, he decided to wait until nightfall to make his move.
As night fell, Han City’s lights flickered on, and the nightlife began to stir.
Villa No. 015 in New City Bay.
Inside, Zhu Dongxi lay in bed, anxiously awaiting news from his thug.
“That thug, it’s so late and still no word. Could he be out partying?”
Worry gnawed at him, so Zhu Dongxi pulled out his phone and called.
“Hey! Thug, how’s the job coming along?”
“Fuck you, Zhu Dongxi. If I ever work for you again, I’m a pig.”
The call abruptly ended with a busy signal. Zhu Dongxi stared at his phone in disbelief.
His thug was nothing but a dog raised by the Zhu family, yet he dared to bark back at his master.
Furious, Zhu Dongxi slammed his phone onto the bed. “What the hell is going on with that useless bastard?”
Pacing the room, a dark premonition settled in his heart.
Meanwhile, Duan Wuhen had already stealthily infiltrated the villa complex.
Under the moonlight, his figure was ghostlike, skillfully avoiding patrolling guards and surveillance cameras as he made his way toward Villa No. 015.
Inside, Zhu Dongxi sat restlessly on the living room sofa, downing a bottle of liquor in a bid to calm his nerves.
Outside, Duan Wuhen surveyed the back wall of the villa.
Using a large tree by the wall for leverage, he nimbly climbed up and leapt onto the balcony of the second floor.
Unaware of the looming danger, Zhu Dongxi continued to brood over the thug’s earlier rude words.
Duan Wuhen peered through the window, spotting Zhu Dongxi’s silhouette.
He quietly pushed open the window and slipped inside without a sound.
“Who’s there?!”
Zhu Dongxi heard a faint noise and was about to turn when a hand suddenly pinned him to the sofa, a dagger pressed coldly against his throat.
“Young Master Zhu, long time no see,” Duan Wuhen said icily.
Eyes wide with terror, Zhu Dongxi stammered, “You… how did you get in? What do you want?”
“What do I want? When you sent men to cripple my legs, you should’ve expected this day to come.”
A cold glint flashed in Duan Wuhen’s eyes. Pressing the dagger slightly, a thin line of blood appeared on Zhu Dongxi’s neck.
“N—no, don’t kill me! I’ll give you anything—money, women—just spare me!”
Duan Wuhen sneered, “I’m not interested in those things. I only want your life.”
Just as Duan Wuhen was about to strike, the room suddenly flooded with light.
A group of bodyguards burst in, encircling them.
It turned out that after Zhu Dongxi’s call to his thug went unanswered, he’d sensed trouble and secretly ordered guards to lie in wait around the villa.
“Haha, Duan Wuhen, you think you can kill me so easily? Today’s your death day!” Zhu Dongxi sneered, emboldened by his reinforcements.
“Oh? You think these weaklings can stop me?”
Duan Wuhen surveyed the room, his eyes free of fear, burning instead with fierce determination.
“Haha, kid! Mouth still running even with death at your door.”
The bodyguards charged, wielding stun batons.
But to Duan Wuhen, these puny lackeys were nothing but weaklings.
With swift agility and precise strikes, each blow landed exactly where it counted.
Minutes later, the once fully armed guards lay strewn unconscious across the floor.
Terrified, Zhu Dongxi backed away step by step as Duan Wuhen advanced.
“Don’t… don’t come any closer!”
Duan Wuhen snorted coldly, “I told you, you die today.”
“Stop! Or I’ll shoot!”
Suddenly, a shout came from outside.
A middle-aged man appeared at the doorway, gun aimed at Duan Wuhen, a sinister grin on his face.
Seeing this man, Zhu Dongxi clung to a lifeline.
“Father, this man wants to kill me! Please kill him first.”
But the man seemed deaf to his plea, his expression grave as he stared at Duan Wuhen.
“Oh? You think this thing can threaten me?”
“Haha! No matter how skilled you are, you fear a butcher’s cleaver. And I’m holding a gun!”
Duan Wuhen’s lips curled into a mocking smile. “Why don’t you try?”
The man’s hand trembled slightly. For some reason, this young man exuded an invisible pressure.
Gritting his teeth, he pulled the trigger.
Yet the bullet stopped just a foot from Duan Wuhen.
“What… how is this possible?” the man’s eyes widened in shock.
Duan Wuhen lifted his hand gently, and the bullet reversed course, shooting back at the man.
Caught off guard, the man was struck in the arm. His gun clattered to the floor.
“Who exactly are you?” the man asked, fear flickering in his eyes.
“You don’t need to know who I am. Just know it’s time to leave.”
Duan Wuhen’s gaze turned icy as he looked at Zhu Dongxi.
With a flick of his finger, a silver needle pierced both their foreheads.
Father and son collapsed silently to the ground, lifeless.
