Volume One, Chapter Six: New Beginnings and Registration
“Suit yourself. Once you leave, I’ll have some peace and quiet.”
Hearing this, Yan Xiyue immediately grew furious.
“You! I hope you don’t regret this.”
“I, Duan Wuhen, have never regretted anything in my life.”
“Ling’er, let’s go!”
The two women got into Yan Xiyue’s pink Maserati and sped off, kicking up dust behind them.
“*Cough, cough, cough*—”
Duan Wuhen fanned away the dust, feeling thoroughly exasperated.
“That little girl drove so fast, and I ended up with a mouthful of dust. Indeed, it is said that only villains and women are hard to manage.”
With a sigh, he slowly made his way back to his residence.
At Han City University, the Academic Affairs Office.
Zhang Chengguo was busy handling documents when he received a phone call.
“Hello?”
“Principal Zhang? I have a matter I’d like your help with.”
The familiar voice softened Zhang Chengguo’s initial impatience into a smile.
“Oh, Director Yan, what can I do for you?”
“It’s like this—I have a deserving nephew. Could you arrange for him to be in the same class as Yueyue?”
Upon hearing this, Zhang Chengguo’s smile faded.
“Director Yan, you know the current situation. It’s risky to admit a student without proper cause—it could invite trouble.”
Yan Mingjun sneered coldly. Did he not understand what this old man was thinking? It was all about squeezing out more favors.
“Oh? That’s unfortunate. The five hundred million yuan donation from Yan Corporation might not be delivered to your school, then.”
“No, no, Director Yan, I was just joking earlier. I’ll arrange for your nephew immediately. He can register tomorrow.”
After hanging up, Yan Mingjun snorted coldly.
“Ingrates. Without the Yan family’s annual donations, would that principal’s position be so secure?”
Opening the door to his room, Duan Wuhen looked around at the mess and shook his head helplessly.
“That fiery red azalea…”
At that moment, the phone rang.
“Wuhen, everything’s settled. You can report to Han City University first thing tomorrow morning.”
“Got it! Thanks, Uncle.”
“Ah, we’re family—no need for formalities. I have some things to attend to, so I’ll hang up now.”
After the call ended, Duan Wuhen fell into thought.
Having spent his childhood studying with the old man on Qingcheng Mountain, he had never experienced student life. Now that he had this chance to enter the campus, he must treasure it.
Early the next morning, Duan Wuhen rose early, a habit formed over the past decade.
Before dawn each day, the old man would force the rooster to crow, pulling him out of bed from his dreams. Over time, Duan Wuhen naturally developed the habit of waking early.
Every time he thought of this, a chill ran down his spine.
He looked up at the slowly rising red sun, got up, and prepared to wash.
But upon entering the bathroom, he hesitated.
He had returned in such a rush that he forgot to buy toiletries.
Staring at the pink towel hanging on the hook, Duan Wuhen pondered.
That girl was so scatterbrained—she even forgot her own towel.
Well, it didn’t matter. After all, she was his fiancée. He’d make do for now and bring her one when he went to school.
After washing up, Duan Wuhen closed the door behind him and headed to Han City University.
Outside the university gate, colorful flags fluttered in the breeze, and the atmosphere was lively.
It was the university’s annual grand occasion—the orientation event.
Many volunteers held signs for various colleges, greeting the new students with bright smiles.
“Hey, Yanyan, look over there! That guy is so handsome! I feel like I’m falling in love.”
Yanyan, the girl called, rolled her eyes in annoyance.
“You’ve said that three times already today.”
“No, this one really is handsome! Look!”
Hearing this, Zhou Yanyan looked toward the school gate.
Just then, Duan Wuhen happened to glance over, meeting Zhou Yanyan’s gaze.
Wow! He really is handsome!
With hearts in her eyes, Zhou Yanyan abandoned her usual reserve and hurried over with quick steps.
“Hi! Junior, which college are you from?”
“Oh, I’m from the College of Life Sciences. Where should I register?”
Upon hearing this, Zhou Yanyan smiled so brightly her mouth nearly couldn’t close.
It was even better that he was in her own college—much easier to approach.
“Junior, hello! I’m in charge of orientation for the College of Life Sciences. I’ll help you register—follow me.”
Duan Wuhen suddenly felt a soft hand grasp his own, and his face flushed with warmth.
It was his first time holding a girl’s hand—how could he not be shy?
Seeing Duan Wuhen blush, Zhou Yanyan grew even happier.
So shy, huh? Haha, this is a real find.
Watching Zhou Yanyan quickly bring the handsome guy back, Song Weiwei couldn’t help but give a thumbs-up.
No wonder she’s the campus belle—truly impressive.
“Junior, give me your admission notice, exam permit, and file folder. Fill out this form, and then you can head to the dorm.”
???
Duan Wuhen was taken aback. What were these things? Uncle Yan hadn’t given him any of them.
“Uh, I don’t have any of those things.”
Upon hearing this, the two girls immediately became wary.
Could this be a fraudster come to cause trouble? What a pity for such a handsome face.
As they debated whether to report him to the teachers, Yan Xiyue’s phone rang in the university canteen.
“Hello, Dad? What do you need me for now?”
“Yueyue, are you busy?”
Yan Xiyue swallowed a small steamed bun, mumbling.
“Not busy, I’m eating.”
“That’s good. Go find Wuhen now. I forgot to tell him yesterday—take him directly to see your dean.”
“What!? That bumpkin is coming? No way, I’m not going.”
“Yueyue, listen. Even if you don’t like him now, he saved your mother yesterday. If you keep causing trouble, I’ll freeze your bank card.”
Yan Xiyue fell silent. Indeed, he was her mother’s savior.
She finished the last steamed bun, wiped the grease from the corner of her mouth, and stood to walk toward the school gate.
At the gate, Zhou Yanyan smiled as she conversed with Duan Wuhen, while Song Weiwei hid behind, making a call to the teacher.
“Hey! Weiwei, what are you doing?”
The sudden voice startled Song Weiwei.
“Yueyue, you scared me to death!”
Yan Xiyue smiled apologetically.
“Alright, my fault. What exactly are you up to?”
Song Weiwei glanced at Zhou Yanyan and whispered into Yan Xiyue’s ear.
“It’s a long story…”
Then Song Weiwei explained the entire situation to Yan Xiyue.
“What!? This guy says he’s from our college?”
Song Weiwei nodded.
Yan Xiyue felt as if the sky had fallen. No wonder her father wanted her to bring Duan Wuhen to see the dean.
There was no choice—when Dad decides something, it never changes.
Yan Xiyue strode toward Duan Wuhen.
“Hey! Bumpkin, come with me!”
Seeing her approach, Duan Wuhen was delighted.
“Wow! Wife, you even came out to meet me personally.”
“Quiet, I’m not your wife. Don’t call me that.”
“Hehe, just a matter of time.”
Yan Xiyue was speechless. She had never met anyone so shameless in her life.
