Chapter Forty-Nine: Summoning the Ancestor Master

Jie Peiling raised an eyebrow, looking at Hui Feiran with a smile and said, “I understand.” No one could tell whether Jie truly understood or was just pretending. Meanwhile, Li Shen, who was watching from outside, was startled—an immortal master he had served for many years had actually died.
Hui Feiran shuddered; he never expected Jie Peiling to have discerned his plan. Seizing the moment while Jie was momentarily stunned, he thrust his sword forward again.
Hui Feiran’s right hand unleashed a burst of sword energy, instantly forcing Jie Peiling back several yards.
Jie Peiling formed a hand seal with one hand; a golden character enveloped him before he vanished from this world.
Li Shen was alarmed. He scanned the surroundings outside, desperate to locate where Jie Peiling had fled. If he truly escaped, what could he do? With his meager martial strength, he might be killed with a single sword strike.
Hui Feiran said, “It’s a simple displacement technique, probably a simplified version of the ‘Heaven-Swapping’ great divine skill. He wants to seize control of this small world for himself. Clever method. If you really managed to take it from him, then who could possibly threaten you? Does that mean all my decades of cultivation have been for nothing?”
Suddenly, his face turned pale, cold sweat breaking out, and he trembled as he said, “We’re in trouble...”
Li Shen asked, “What’s wrong?”
Hui Feiran glanced at the sky and said quietly, “It’s something you don’t need to know.”
Li Shen said nothing, staring at Hui Feiran from outside the world. His expression was blank, yet that blankness was more unsettling than tears.
Hui Feiran recited an incantation. Three blossoms appeared above his head, and a faint, fruit-like object flickered at his chest. His golden robe shimmered with flowing light, giving him the aura of a Daoist celestial master descended to the mortal realm.
He took a step forward, and it seemed as if the entire cosmos was retreating. In an unseen dimension, he had already walked more than a hundred paces.
Golden light flickered in Hui Feiran’s pupils, carrying the hues of dawn clouds. Tracing the place where Jie Peiling vanished, he made a hand seal with his right hand and glimpsed a faint thread in his eyes.
Hui Feiran grunted softly, and the surroundings shifted. He suddenly found himself amidst bustling streets and alleys. A wave of intrusive thoughts crept into his mind. He flicked his sleeve fiercely; a sharp sword wind swept the area, overturning everything.
Without pausing, he drew a talisman from his hand. Accompanied by the word “Shock,” the heavens seemed to crumble and the earth to split. The corpses pierced through by sword energy were crushed, their blood-red fragments and stones buried together.
He chuckled lightly, “First, he tried to seize control of this realm with the Heaven-Swapping technique. Then, he used a mental projection to blend the scene with the minds of many, subtly guiding their ‘primordial spirits’ before killing them. Clever tactics.”
The sword in Hui Feiran’s hand gleamed with light. He found what he was searching for and smiled knowingly. He saw a faint ripple in the distance and formed a sword formation with his fingers amid the clouds.

The earth’s backbone split open, and from the crack surged a long beam of sword light, like a swimming dragon, piercing with such force that it created a hole wherever it collided.
The sword light vanished in an instant, closing the distance of a hundred meters in a flash. The sword in the hands of the one whose plan had failed flicked up, like a white goose rising from water.
Hui Feiran whispered with a smile, “Quite the dodger.”
Li Shen asked, “When will this end?”
“Shut up.”
Hui Feiran forced himself to keep going. The “Dao Fruit” in his chest was fading. He muttered, “Looks like I’ll have to call on the Patriarch.”
Clearly, earlier, to demonstrate his power, Hui Feiran had borrowed part of his Patriarch’s Dao Fruit. Without that, it would have been impossible to use such a great divine skill so frequently.
Now, the expression of “Hui Feiran” was indifferent. He extended a hand and used his sword as a brush, writing characters in the air. Golden marks hovered motionless.
Finally, he tossed the sword forged from Jie Peiling’s sword energy into the center of the characters and scolded under his breath, “Come out!”
From afar, the fleeing Jie Peiling seemed to have passed through the void and returned to his original spot, then suddenly appeared right beside Hui Feiran.
A dazzling white light flashed in Hui Feiran’s palm. Soon, lightning surged toward Jie Peiling.
Jie Peiling didn’t know what method Hui Feiran had used to forcibly drag him back, but upon seeing his opponent’s face, he summoned all his strength and slashed with his sword.
After the strike, the sword energy didn’t cut toward the lightning but soared upward into the sky. Then, the two—himself and the sword light—swapped positions.
“Interesting. Quite a clever idea.”
Jie Peiling was badly injured. Repeatedly overexerting his spiritual power had overloaded his body. If this wasn’t his second time reaching this realm, his cultivation might have been shattered by now.
Earlier, Seratu’s fist nearly killed him. Now, Hui Feiran continuously used Dao arts, his spiritual power seemingly bottomless, pouring out endlessly as if inexhaustible.
He didn’t stop, pushing his body to the brink. His Seven-Star Step grew more skillful with each stride.
At the place he had just left, dark clouds gathered suddenly. Raindrops of various sizes fell one after another, piercing the ground upon landing. Each raindrop was sword energy, all remnants of the strikes aimed at Hui Feiran.

Li Shen watched from above, heart still trembling, his hands shaking uncontrollably. Seeing such a divine skill made his limbs weak. If that move were aimed at him, he thought, he wouldn’t even be able to escape.
Watching Jie Peiling swap places with the sword light with every strike sent chills down his spine.
He finally understood why immortal masters were revered and feared. With such power, how could ordinary people like him resist?
All they could do was wait to die silently.
With the Patriarch’s essence infused, Hui Feiran smiled calmly and launched a continuous sword strike. The terrifying sword energy seemed to envelop this small world entirely.
Jie Peiling burned an offensive talisman all at once, but it was no use—he was incinerated on the spot.
Another defensive talisman was also sliced open by Hui Feiran’s sword energy.
He was close—just a little more, and that unstoppable sword strike would have cut him down.
How could “Hui Feiran” leave him any openings?
Sword energy, once again, sword energy. He swung his sword again.
On the spot, he disrupted the flowing trajectory of the Seven-Star River that Jie Peiling had formed.
At that moment, Jie Peiling’s sword slammed toward “Hui Feiran.”
“Still hiding talismans?”
With a single step, Hui Feiran closed the distance, dodging easily. Another talisman came flying at him.
“You like displacement? Then a talisman is just a talisman, a sword is just a sword. Who’s dumb enough to get hit twice?”
“Hui Feiran” retreated, the sword in his hand transforming grandly, then struck toward the other sword.
He knew this sword was of high quality, but that was the desired effect. Since he couldn’t destroy it, why not weaken its power and claim it for himself?
