Chapter Fifty-One: Who Will Save Him?

Li Shen glared at the mansion and cursed angrily, "You little beasts, your damn family deserves this..."
The young lady of the house, hearing this, suppressed her fear with fury. She tried to open the courtyard gate to confront him and said to the old steward,
"Step aside."
The old steward shook his head. "Miss, that’s not allowed."
"Who is he?"
"I don’t know."
"If you don’t know, then you shouldn’t speak like that."
"If your father were here, he wouldn’t let you go out either."
The young lady paused for a moment, then asked coldly, "I want to know why he’s cursing like that."
The old steward sighed helplessly. "What others say is their business. Don’t mind those unimportant words. Just focus on yourself."
Li Shen grinned, blood flowing from the corner of his parted lips as he shouted,
"Chen Hengyu, you’re a bastard without a mother, hehe... If I say it out loud, then damn it, I might as well be your—"
Before he could finish, the mansion’s gate suddenly slammed open with a thud. The old steward glared fiercely and pointed at him, rebuking,
"Shut your mouth!"
"Wang Tianye, do you think you deserve this? I just want to make your life miserable!"
Without hesitation, the old steward stepped forward and punched him squarely in the head.
"You dare hit me? That lunatic might kill me and that would be fine, but who the hell are you? Just a servant. I’m a cut above you. If you have the guts, kill me here today!"
At that moment, the young lady appeared halfway out, curious. She didn’t know who this blood-soaked man was, why he knew her name, or why the steward had attacked him.
She stepped forward and said to the steward, "Let him go. Invite him inside to sit for a while."
Li Shen chuckled darkly, "Wang Tianye, you mutt, did you hear that? Your lady says to let me go. You old dog who’s lived for decades..."

Before he could finish, the old steward’s fist silenced him.
"I beg your pardon, but I cannot do that."
Li Shen clenched his teeth and said again, "You’re still pretending to be innocent? What the hell have you done that you don’t even know? Let me go quickly, or if we’re late, we’ll both die!"
The old steward finally released him and said to the young lady, "You should go back first. In a few days, I will tell you everything in detail."
Li Shen whispered, "Hurry, take me to the high platform, quickly!"
The old steward grunted unhappily but chose to carry him on his back. However, after just a few steps, a faint sword light suddenly pierced through their figures.
He turned his head gradually and saw the young lady had already shut the gate. Seeing this, the old steward sighed with relief and collapsed to the ground.
The sword struck Li Shen’s chest, but the exact location was the old steward’s heart.
Xie Peiling naturally sensed everything happening there. He was indifferent to the old man’s death, unaware of the details but clear that the two knew each other, though their relationship was strained. Yet, the old man still chose to help him.
Thus, Xie Peiling drew his sword and killed him. Nothing more.
Every time he wielded his sword, Xie Peiling’s youthful face betrayed no emotion—cold and detached. Clad in a blood-stained robe and holding a long sword, he walked steadily in one direction. Bystanders avoided him, fearing the “grim reaper” might go mad.
Li Shen was in agony, overwhelmed by helplessness. He struggled along the familiar street, staggering, often flailing both hands forward. A gust of wind might topple him, and then he would never rise again.
He regretted deeply that his servant had been discovered. If not for that, none of this would have happened.
At this moment, his eyes were nearly glazed over. He could no longer suppress the fear in his heart. Whenever a powerful aura came from afar, he felt a chill inside.
Now he understood—it was a humiliation.
This familiar place, this familiar scenario—he was always the one doing this to others before. Now the roles were reversed; he was the one being tormented, while the other person was the real “Li Shen.”
That “Li Shen” was more truly himself than he was. Knowing how much he valued his face and dignity, that person relentlessly humiliated him. This was no longer a simple pursuit; it was sheer, one-sided mutilation.
Xie Peiling felt his foundation wavering, the ethereal innate energy flowing through his body. He gritted his teeth, enduring the excruciating pain.
He vowed to capture them all. Whoever came to help Li Shen, he would kill.
If this had happened to anyone else—no matter how strong-willed—they would not surrender or admit fault despite endless torment. Perhaps they never thought they were wrong, but they would all wish for death.

Only death could bring them peace.
But Li Shen did not. His life was neither long nor short. He had tormented many—hundreds, thousands, ten thousands?
Maybe fewer. He was an executioner. It wasn’t unheard of for him to sacrifice an entire village to those two cultivators in a day. His heart was cold—colder than stone.
What about his wife’s death? He didn’t care. His parents were still alive. What purpose did they serve except to help him survive? What other duties did they have?
Li Shen’s mind had gone numb. He only wanted to live. He never imagined he would fall to this day, but as long as there was a shred of hope, he would cling to it.
The sun hung high and cruel, slowly coagulating his black blood spilled on the long street. The white stone bricks had lost their color, seemingly never to be restored.
Li Shen’s vision blurred, yet his eyes shone faintly. He felt he was close, very close. Finally, he saw the distant high platform. Clenching his teeth, he screamed with a heart-wrenching cry,
"I am Li Shen, son of Li Wei of the Southern City Li family! Come quickly to save me!"
At his shout, the guards before the high platform immediately surrounded him. People in the distance heard it all.
Especially his parents—they had no interest in this “son.” Li Shen ignored them, and they ignored him.
Whether this son lived or died was indifferent to them. The second son had already gone to the capital to take the official exam. When the time came, anyone could be sent to kill Li Shen.
And now, it was just as they wished—better if he died sooner. It was what he deserved.
Suddenly, their faces turned pale. Li Shen had come here; what about the family?
To force him to such humiliation meant the Li family had already...
Sweating cold, they now understood why Li Shen had come here.
Who had he offended?
