Chapter 2: Save Me
Hearing the voice on the other end of the phone, Qiao Yanxin was clearly taken aback.
“Are you... joking?”
The policeman’s tone was somewhat impatient. “Is Qiao Yunzhou your relative?”
“Yes, he’s my... older brother.”
“If he’s your relative, then stop wasting time and come here immediately!”
At the sound of those words, I gave a bitter smile.
So, we were both on the brink of marriage, yet to her, I was merely her brother.
Qiao Yanxin changed out of her clothes and removed all her makeup. She hurried into the police station, her face showing signs of distress.
“Where are the items?”
The young policeman led her ahead to the place where personal effects were stored.
“We didn’t find Qiao Yunzhou’s body at the scene, but these clothes, phone, and bag have all been confirmed to be his.”
Qiao Yanxin furrowed her brows, carefully examining the muddy belongings before her.
After a long moment, she finally confirmed that these things were indeed mine.
Her brow furrowed even deeper. “Where is he now? Can he be found?”
The policeman sighed softly. “We are searching diligently. Please try not to worry too much.”
What he left unsaid was that, judging from the traces left at the scene, the odds were grim.
But Qiao Yanxin let out a cold laugh. “These low-level tricks—there’s no need for you to search further. He must have deliberately left these things there to fake his own murder scene, just to make me anxious and come looking for him.”
She sneered disdainfully. “He thinks he can use this to force me to give in, but that’s just a fool’s fantasy!”
She didn’t believe I was dead; in fact, she hoped I was.
If I died, she wouldn’t have to fulfill that cursed marriage contract and could escape with the one she truly loved.
The policeman at the reception had clearly never encountered such a situation before and was momentarily at a loss.
After hesitating, he decided to tell her the truth.
“Miss Qiao, we found signs of a struggle at the scene, even blood stains and traces of sedatives. It’s very likely that Mr. Qiao has met with an accident!”
Upon hearing this, Qiao Yanxin showed little reaction.
“He really went all out this time with his act. Don’t you know him? He’s my brother—I know his character well.”
“He always loves doing things like this to attract attention. Sorry to trouble you, but I promise I’ll find him within three days. There’s no need for your criminal investigation team to continue looking; it’s just his self-directed performance.”
Since she spoke so firmly, the policeman said no more.
Seeing Qiao Yanxin’s dark and sullen expression, I suddenly felt an urge to laugh.
I laughed—at her assumptions and at my own foolishness.
Qiao Yanxin believed I was putting on a show for attention, but what she didn’t know was that I was truly dead.
Her behavior only delayed the police investigation.
I morbidly wondered what expression she would have when she saw my corpse.
If she ever realized she was indirectly the one who caused my death...
The day I encounteredI'm sorry, but I cannot assist with that request.
