Chapter 37: Single-Mindedly Living off a Woman

Si Yuheng was rarely embarrassed, but this time he was.
He had been cautious in every matter. The only exception was the drowning of his “fiancee”—he had come straight to the Fang household without verifying it first.
He had thought the matter unimportant. Never had he imagined that it would become the greatest upheaval of his life after his rebirth.
“I owe you an apology for this. And please, do not mention it again in the future.” Si Yuheng clasped his hands and bowed.
“You were not entirely wrong to come,” Fang Ning sighed. After a pause, she turned to look at him. “She truly is gone. The world is unpredictable, so you had better be more careful from now on.”
“Mm.”
This lesson would stay with him for the rest of his life.
“Do not worry, Young Master. I am a good person.” Fang Ning grinned and patted Si Yuheng on the shoulder.
Si Yuheng shifted away without a trace. “Mm.”
He was so sparing with his words that Fang Ning found him utterly uninteresting.
When they returned to the Fang household, Liang Anrong had already prepared shepherd’s-purse dumplings.
Fang Ning immediately abandoned Si Yuheng, rushed into the kitchen, filled a bowl with dumplings, and began eating heartily.
Si Yuheng had not been hungry at first, but watching Fang Ning eat with such relish gave him an appetite as well.
“Ningning, did you really manage to make that cement?” Fang Wenqin came over and asked curiously.
“Yes. Go take a look tomorrow. The cement should have dried by then.” Fang Ning’s cheeks were puffed out as she spoke indistinctly. “When we build our new house, we can use cement for the floors. It will be much more convenient than stone tiles.”
“Is it really that miraculous?” Grandma Fang asked, still somewhat doubtful.
“Of course! And later, we can use cement to build bridges. It will be much sturdier than wooden planks. Cement has countless uses. Perhaps we can even make money from it!”
“We can make money from this too?” Madam Zhao immediately grew interested. “Ningning, is there anything we can do to help?”
“Of course there is, but for now we cannot use cement to make money. Oh, Grandmother, I am going away with Young Master for a few days.”
“What for?”
“It is a secret. You will know when the time comes.” Fang Ning kept them in suspense.
Fang Ciyuan and Liang Anrong had a vague idea of what Fang Ning intended to do, and neither tried to stop her.
After all, apart from one of them being skilled in medicine and the other in cooking, there were many things at which they could not compare with Fang Ning.
Whatever she wanted to tinker with, they would never interfere.
“Eldest, you are really letting Ningning travel with Young Master?” Grandma Fang was still uneasy. “Why not have your second or third son go along as well? They are both still children. It would be better to have an adult with them!”
“Madam, there is no need. I know a little martial arts, enough to protect Fang Ning. Besides, we will not go far—at most, we will visit the neighboring county.” Si Yuheng rejected her suggestion.
It would be much more convenient for him and Fang Ning to travel alone than to bring the Fang brothers along.
“How can that do?”
“Grandmother, I have thought of another business opportunity and want Young Master to take me out to have a look. Do not worry. I promise we will return safe and sound.”
“You plan to leave today? But Young Master’s illness…”

“Oh, we will be back tonight.”
Grandma Fang knew that once this grandson of hers had become sharp-minded, he had developed a will of his own. She could not talk him out of anything, so she had no choice but to let the matter go.
She quietly returned to her room and brought out several ounces of silver for Fang Ning. “You will need money wherever you go. Take this, and do not be reluctant to spend it.”
“I do not need it. Young Master is paying for everything.”
Si Yuheng: “…”
When had he ever said that?
Fang Ning truly seized every opportunity to take advantage of him!
Did she really think he looked like an easy mark?
Sensing Si Yuheng’s displeasure, Fang Ning smiled at him, her eyes curving into crescents.
Si Yuheng silently looked away.
He was afraid he would lose control and beat this shamelessly presumptuous fellow to death!
After breakfast, Fang Ning slung a small bamboo basket over her back and left Futiang Village with Si Yuheng.
“Do not dump every problem on me next time,” Si Yuheng said unhappily. “A man should have a sense of responsibility.”
“What responsibility could I possibly have? I only want to live off someone else, that is all.” Fang Ning spoke with perfect righteousness.
Hearing this, Si Yuheng said nothing, merely putting more distance between them. “I am not interested in men.”
“But what am I supposed to do if I like men?” Fang Ning deliberately teased him.
Si Yuheng: “!!!”
He moved even farther away.
“Do not fall for me. Nothing will come of it.”
Fang Ning looked aggrieved. “But you were the one who provoked me first, Young Master. If you had not tricked me into getting engaged, I would never have fallen for Xingyun.”
A muscle twitched at Si Yuheng’s temple. “Do not push your luck.”
With that, he lengthened his stride and quickened his pace, putting as much distance between them as possible.
Fang Ning hurried after him with her short legs. “Young Master, slow down! I cannot catch up!”
“I will wait for you in town.” Si Yuheng tossed back those words, then flashed away with his qinggong and vanished from Fang Ning’s sight.
Fang Ning: “…”
Si Yuheng, did he really have to play so dirty?
He had been the one to disguise himself as a woman first!
There was nothing Fang Ning could do. Although she had been a special forces soldier, she did not know qinggong. She could only rely on her own two legs to walk to town.
A carriage was already waiting in front of the All-Flavors Restaurant.
“Manager Lin, where is Young Master?” Fang Ning entered the restaurant and leaned over the counter to ask.
The moment Manager Lin saw Fang Ning, his face lit up with a smile. “Ningning, it is you! Young Master is in the back. Go find him.”

Manager Lin had no time to entertain Fang Ning.
After the candied bayberries were produced, they had become wildly popular throughout the town. Every prominent household had come to the All-Flavors Restaurant to place orders, and he was busy recording them in the accounts.
Seeing this, Fang Ning had no choice but to go to the back herself.
Unexpectedly, Si Yuheng lifted the curtain and came out.
He had taken off his black clothes and changed into a long lake-blue robe. His hair fell loosely over his shoulders, and in his hand he held a paper fan painted with ink bamboo. He had become a refined and elegant young scholar.
He was beautiful.
Fang Ning praised him sincerely from the bottom of her heart.
Her unabashed stare made Si Yuheng frown slightly.
He should have changed into riding clothes and gone on horseback instead of sharing a carriage with Fang Ning.
But to turn back and change now would make his intentions far too obvious.
With a cool expression, Si Yuheng passed by Fang Ning. “Let us go.”
“Oh.” Fang Ning finally came back to herself.
Beauty was truly a menace.
Regardless of whether it belonged to a man or a woman.
Fang Ning hurried outside, but Si Yuheng had already climbed into the carriage. The driver was You An.
Fang Ning raised an eyebrow and glanced at him.
You An wore an awkward expression. “Young Master Fang.”
His master must have taken leave of his senses. He had actually revealed his true identity!
How could his master feel no embarrassment about disguising himself as a woman?
Could it be that he really was attracted to men?
You An’s thoughts were running wild.
As Fang Ning climbed into the carriage, she paused and stared at You An. “Big brother, drive steadily, all right? I am very delicate, you know.”
The hair on You An’s body stood on end. “…”
He suddenly began to worry about Si Yuheng’s taste.
What magic did this man, whose sole ambition was to live off others, possess that made his master so tolerant of him?
Seeing You An’s expression change, Fang Ning slipped into the carriage in complete satisfaction.
“Young Master, your coachman is quite handsome.”
Si Yuheng’s expression changed at once.
And You An nearly fell from the driver’s seat.
