After breakfast was served, Jiang Yun finally sat down to eat. At that moment, the director appeared, carrying four bamboo baskets of varying sizes, setting them down in front of the group.

“Director, what are you doing with those baskets? They aren’t even the same size!” Zhang Shan asked.

The director explained, “There are two sizes of bamboo baskets here. In a moment, the winners of yesterday’s game will carry the bigger ones, while Jiang Yun will carry the smallest.”

Zhang Shan’s tone changed instantly, “Director, this isn’t fair at all. Is this the ‘reward’ you were talking about?”

“Bingo!” the director replied cheerily.

“Damn!” Zhang Shan shot to his feet, stomping off toward his room in a huff.

“Zhang Shan, aren’t you eating?” Jiang Yi called after him.

“No, I’m too full of anger to eat!”

Yang Mi suddenly burst out laughing.

“Sister Mi, what are you laughing at?”

“Oh, nothing,” Yang Mi answered.

Jiang Yun teased, “Ms. Yang Mi is always laughing for no reason. Could it be a split personality?”

Yang Mi shot him a look. “I just remembered the joke about the three cups—big, medium, and small. That’s all.”

Jiang Yun replied, “Oh, I see.”

“What did you understand?” Yang Mi asked.

“I understand that you’re lost in your own world and can’t escape.”

“Go to hell!” Yang Mi hurled an egg at him.

Jiang Yun caught it deftly.

Jiang Yi laughed at their banter.

After breakfast, everyone tidied up, and it was already half past eight.

Jiang Yun called out to them, “Time to start working. Otherwise, there won’t be any lunch!”

“The apples were already picked clean by the last guests, so today, we’re switching to digging bamboo shoots,” Jiang Yun announced. “It’s the beginning of winter, the perfect season for winter bamboo shoots. So, today’s task is to dig them up!”

“Yay!” Jiang Yi jumped up excitedly.

Since she arrived at Mushroom House, everything had been novel and exciting to Jiang Yi; she was always bouncing around energetically.

Zhang Shan let out a sigh.

“What’s wrong, Zhang Shan?” Jiang Yi asked.

“Seeing these three big baskets has completely killed my enthusiasm.”

Jiang Yun chuckled.

So the four of them donned their baskets, pulled on rain boots, put on work gloves, and headed toward the surrounding hills. The camera crew followed closely behind.

Jiang Yun led the group to a small slope thick with lush bamboo.

“Let’s dig here.”

Without further ado, the four of them, in rain boots and armed with small hoes, plunged into the bamboo grove.

Jiang Yun spotted a freshly sprouted shoot, struck with his hoe, and unearthed it in one go.

He tossed it into his basket and glanced at Zhang Shan. “Zhang Shan, you’re doing it wrong. You need to dig up the whole shoot, not just the part sticking out.”

“Got it, Senior Jiang Yun!”

After only a short while, Yang Mi and Jiang Yi were so tired they sat down to rest.

Jiang Yun walked over and gave Yang Mi’s calf a gentle nudge. “Get back to work, or there won’t be lunch!”

“Let me rest a little!” Yang Mi protested.

Jiang Yun said nothing more.

“Yiyi, swap baskets with me,” Jiang Yun said.

“Really, Senior Jiang Yun?” Jiang Yi asked.

Jiang Yun nodded.

“Yay!”

Yang Mi rolled her eyes. “Why don’t you swap with me? I can’t carry mine anymore.”

Jiang Yun laughed. “Why are you competing with a young girl?”

“So you’re saying I’m old, then?”

“I never said that; that’s your own interpretation.”

Jiang Yun chose not to bicker further with Yang Mi, lest he come across as too frivolous and talkative.

He led the group as they dug for bamboo shoots, and before long, it was noon.

“That’s enough! Let’s head home for lunch.”

Jiang Yun led the three back to Mushroom House.

On the way, he distributed some of the bamboo shoots to local residents.

Back at Mushroom House, Jiang Yi and Yang Mi hurried to their rooms, grabbed fresh clothes, and went off to shower.

Jiang Yun started preparing lunch.

“Today we’re having stir-fried bamboo shoots with cured pork.”

He busied himself in the kitchen until Zhang Shan walked in.

“Brother Jiang Yun, need any help?”

Jiang Yun looked at him. “You want to help?”

Zhang Shan nodded.

“All right, then. Help me rinse the rice.”

“On it!”

Zhang Shan began washing the rice.

Half an hour later, lunch was ready and served.

“Stir-fried bamboo shoots with cured pork, coming up!”

Jiang Yun brought the food to the table. “Everyone, let’s eat!”

“Great, I’ve been dying to eat!” Zhang Shan was the first to dig in.

He looked mischievously at the director’s crew. “Director, want some? I’m telling you, it’s delicious!”

That afternoon, the four returned to the hillside to dig more bamboo shoots.

After dinner that evening, they all sat together to share heartfelt stories.

According to the show’s schedule, it was time for the emotional segment. With Huang Kang and He Ling absent, Jiang Yun had to set the tone.

He extended his right hand to Yang Mi. “Ms. Yang Mi, it’s been a pleasure meeting you.”

Yang Mi hesitated, then shook his hand. “Likewise.”

“Senior Jiang Yun, what about the two of us?” Jiang Yi asked.

Jiang Yun shook hands with Jiang Yi and Zhang Shan too. “It’s been a pleasure meeting you as well.”

“Yay!”

They chatted until ten, then each returned to their rooms to sleep.

Early the next morning, everyone woke up and cleaned their rooms.

The four of them gathered at a fork in the road, where four Cadillacs were parked.

“This is where we part ways,” Jiang Yun said.

“Take care, Brother Jiang Yun!” Zhang Shan said.

Jiang Yun rolled his eyes. “What are you saying? Can’t you say something more auspicious?”

“Heh heh!” Zhang Shan chuckled sheepishly.

Jiang Yi headed toward her car, waving. “Senior Jiang Yun, Sister Mi, Zhang Shan, goodbye!”

“Goodbye!”

“Bye-bye!”

Jiang Yi got in, and the Cadillac drove off.

“I’ll be going now too,” Yang Mi said.

Jiang Yun nodded.

Finally, Jiang Yun and Zhang Shan each got into their own cars, and soon they too were gone.

Thus ended the filming of the seventh episode of “Yearning for Life.”

Jiang Yun boarded a flight to the Magic City.

By the time he landed, it was nearly noon. He returned to the company to rest for a while, then called Li Mengya.

“Yes, that’s fine. Just come over directly,” he said.

He sent a message to Li Lulu: “I have to step out for a bit. Please take care of things at the office.”

“Okay, boss!”

When Li Mengya arrived at the office, she messaged Jiang Yun.

He rushed downstairs.

Li Mengya drove them to the largest and most advanced recording studio in the city.

“Isn’t that Jiang Yun and Li Mengya?” one of the studio staff murmured, approaching them. “Is there anything I can help you with?”

“Is Master Wei here?” Jiang Yun asked.

“Yes, he is!”

“Excellent.”

Jiang Yun pulled out his phone and sent a message to Wei Meng.

“Master Wei, I’m at the recording studio now. Would you mind coming over?”

Beep.

“I’ll be there right away!”

Jiang Yun and Li Mengya sat in the reception room and waited in silence.

Ten minutes later, urgent footsteps sounded outside.

The door opened, and Wei Meng appeared. “Sorry to keep you waiting.”
