Chapter 126: Recording Songs and Sipping Afternoon Tea—You're Quite the Casanova!
Li Mengya and Jiang Yun stood up together.
"Mengya, Jiang Yun, you've been waiting for a while, haven't you?"
"Not at all!" Jiang Yun replied modestly, "We should thank you, Mr. Wei, for taking the time out of your busy schedule to meet with us!"
Wei Meng pointed at Jiang Yun and laughed, "You rascal, always so polite!"
Jiang Yun just smiled and said nothing.
"Mr. Wei, I haven't asked you yet—how did you happen to be present at the selection for the 'Ambassador of Diplomatic Image for China'?" Jiang Yun asked.
"That’s because I was once part of the Red Institution myself!"
Jiang Yun was surprised; he truly hadn't expected that.
Wei Meng and Jiang Yun chatted for a while longer.
"Mr. Wei, it's about time. Shall we begin?"
"Alright, let's get started. I know you have to record 'The Voice' this afternoon!"
Wei Meng led Jiang Yun and Li Mengya to the largest recording studio.
Wei Meng went to the control panel and began adjusting the equipment.
Jiang Yun and Li Mengya entered the booth, and through the glass wall, Wei Meng gave Jiang Yun an OK gesture.
Wearing their headphones, Jiang Yun and Li Mengya exchanged a glance.
Jiang Yun began to sing softly, "You are the song in my heart, a flower blooming within."
Li Mengya took Jiang Yun’s hand and sang sweetly, "You are the song in my life, longing flowing into a river."
Jiang Yun smiled at Li Mengya, "The song that lingers in my heart, don't be just a passerby."
...
The music stopped; Wei Meng signaled OK, "Alright! That’s a wrap!"
Jiang Yun and Li Mengya both breathed a sigh of relief.
"Now it's just my solo recording, Mengya. Could you wait outside for a moment?"
Li Mengya nodded.
She left the booth, and Jiang Yun put on his headphones.
Wei Meng gave him another OK gesture.
"For the dream in my heart, I fight bravely like a tempest, night will give way to light!"
...
Jiang Yun's singing, at S-tier level, passed in one flawless take.
After recording "Invincible Hero," Jiang Yun began recording "Free as the Wind!"
Wearing his headphones, Jiang Yun sang passionately, "I am as free as the wind, like your tenderness, impossible to hold onto!"
Wei Meng and Li Mengya stood at the control panel; Wei Meng sighed, "Jiang Yun’s rock performance is superb!"
Li Mengya nodded, deeply agreeing.
Jiang Yun finished singing, and Wei Meng signaled OK.
Jiang Yun came out of the booth, "Mr. Wei, is the studio band working today?"
"They are, why do you ask?"
"I want to record another song, and I need female harmonies!" Jiang Yun explained.
"Alright, I’ll call the band!" Wei Meng took out his phone and made a call.
A short while later, twenty women entered the recording studio.
Jiang Yun glanced over and was startled to see Yu Qing among them.
Yu Qing discreetly greeted Jiang Yun, and he smiled in return.
Jiang Yun handed out the sheet music to everyone, "Ladies, here and here, I’ll need harmonies!"
Everyone nodded.
Jiang Yun and the twenty women entered the booth and began recording "My Chinese Heart."
As the music played, Jiang Yun sang softly, "The rivers and mountains haunt my dreams."
Harmony: "Ooo ooo ooo ooo~"
"My homeland has been distant for years."
Harmony: "Ooo ooo ooo ooo~"
"But no matter what, nothing can change
my Chinese heart.
Although I wear Western clothes..."
...
"Yangtze and the Great Wall."
Female voices harmonized, "Yangtze and the Great Wall."
"Huangshan and the Yellow River."
Harmony: "Huangshan and the Yellow River."
...
The music stopped; Wei Meng signaled OK.
Jiang Yun looked at the band members, "Thank you all for your hard work. When you have time, I’ll treat everyone to a meal!"
"Star Jiang, we’ll remember that! Don’t go back on your word!" the band leader said.
Jiang Yun opened his mouth but was speechless. Damn, he was just being polite, but someone actually took him seriously. Looks like he shouldn’t always be so polite—one day he might dig his own grave.
Pinching his nose, Jiang Yun said, "In that case, I’ll treat everyone to afternoon tea!"
"Great! There’s a branch of Red Romance Western Restaurant right near the studio—let’s go there for tea!"
Jiang Yun agreed.
Yu Qing quietly watched Li Mengya by Jiang Yun’s side, lost in thought.
After finishing the songs, Jiang Yun borrowed Wei Meng’s computer and sent the audio files to He Yong. After some consideration, he also sent "My Chinese Heart."
Having completed this task, Jiang Yun felt a weight lift from his heart, "At last, one thing sorted out. My schedule lately has been exhausting."
He waited at the door for the band members.
After a while, the band finished packing up and came to the entrance.
Jiang Yun looked at the twenty beautiful women—each one about five foot nine, a row of flawless, long legs. He swallowed hard.
"Damn! Women of the new era are stunning! Too bad they’re not my type! I still prefer someone like Li Mengya!" he mused.
Jiang Yun and the twenty female band members walked side by side down the street, drawing a wave of admiring glances.
They chatted and laughed, causing envy and jealousy among passersby.
Everyone was lively except for two: Li Mengya and Yu Qing.
Li Mengya followed behind Jiang Yun, rolling her eyes, clearly annoyed by his display in front of the women.
Yu Qing, meanwhile, was pondering what kind of relationship Jiang Yun and Li Mengya had.
They arrived at the Red Romance Western Restaurant branch and took a private room with a long table, ordering coffee, fruit platters, and nuts.
"Yu Qing, what would you like?" Jiang Yun asked.
"Uh? Just a glass of carrot juice for me!"
Jiang Yun then asked Li Mengya, "Mengya, what would you like?"
"I want orange juice!" Li Mengya replied.
"You’d better not, orange juice here is always a blend, not freshly squeezed," Jiang Yun said.
"Star Jiang, I didn’t expect you to know even that!" the band leader commented.
Jiang Yun smiled, "A friend of mine, Xiaoli, told me."
"Mengya, what would you like then?" Jiang Yun asked.
"In that case, I’ll have pear juice!"
"Alright!" Jiang Yun looked at the others, "What about everyone else?"
"I want watermelon juice!"
"I want Blue Mountain coffee!"
"Me too, Blue Mountain coffee!"
"I’ll have a cappuccino!"
...
After everyone ordered their drinks, Jiang Yun turned to the waiter, "All set?"
The waiter, holding the order tablet, replied, "Sir, everything is ordered!"
"Good, and bring five fruit platters and nut platters as well!"
"Certainly, sir!"
Once the waiter left, everyone chatted merrily, discussing all sorts of topics.
Unnoticed, the time slipped past five o'clock.
"Everyone, let’s wrap up for today. I have other business, so I won’t stay," Jiang Yun said.
"We know—Star Jiang still has to record 'The Voice'!" the band leader replied.
Jiang Yun smiled, "Let’s catch up another day?"
"Sounds good!"
"Star Jiang, you’d better get going!"
Jiang Yun nodded.
He picked up his suit jacket, and Li Mengya stood up as well. Jiang Yun gave Yu Qing a secret wink, then left the room with Li Mengya.
After leaving the Red Romance Western Restaurant, they got into Li Mengya’s yellow Beetle.
"I didn’t realize you were such a flirt!"
Li Mengya’s comment came out of nowhere, leaving Jiang Yun utterly confused.
"Was I?"
Li Mengya rolled her eyes, "Of course! Whenever you see women, you act like you want to dive right into their arms!"
"Heh!" Jiang Yun, with a rakish air, retorted, "If I’m diving into anyone’s arms, it’s yours!"
"Ugh! Ugh!" Li Mengya sputtered, her cheeks flushing, "What are you saying?! Go die!"
"It’s just tea," Jiang Yun said.
Li Mengya rolled her eyes, "You barely know them, yet you so enthusiastically invite them for tea! Unbelievable."
ps: Thanks to "Lu is my Queen" for the two monthly tickets!
