Chapter 131: Misfortune
Li Mengya tossed the Beetle’s keys to Jiang Yun, who caught them with an outstretched hand.
Jiang Yun opened the car door, and the two of them got inside.
“Beep beep!”
Zhou Lun’s assistant was driving a business van, with Zhou Lun sitting in the front passenger seat, mischievously honking the horn.
Jiang Yun started the car. “Where’s the location?”
“At the intersection of Changhe Road and Songling Road!”
Jiang Yun entered the destination into the navigation system and then drove off with a confident air.
Zhou Lun and his two companions each drove separate cars, following closely behind Li Mengya’s yellow Beetle.
Jiang Yun approached a traffic light. The red light flickered and turned green. Just as he was about to move forward—
Suddenly, a figure appeared right in front of the yellow Beetle.
The person fell straight down without any hesitation.
“Damn! Such bad luck!” Jiang Yun slammed the steering wheel in frustration.
He prepared to pull over to the side of the road, allowing the cars behind him to pass first.
But the person blocked the front of the car, refusing to let Jiang Yun move. “Hey, you hit me! You can’t leave; this is the evidence!”
Jiang Yun ignored the man and stopped the car by the roadside. After a while, Zhou Lun and the others caught up.
Zhou Lun got out and approached Jiang Yun’s car. “Jiang Yun, what happened?”
“Nothing much, just ran into a scammer!” Jiang Yun opened the door and stepped out, standing in front of the car.
Looking at the scene, Jiang Yun couldn’t help but laugh bitterly. The car had been stopped in the middle of the road, yet the scammer had followed it all the way from the center to the roadside—a considerable distance. And through it all, he looked completely unharmed!
Li Mengya got out and came to Jiang Yun’s side. “Jiang Yun... we should call the police.”
Jiang Yun was momentarily stunned. “I thought you’d comfort me, say something like, ‘We still have a dinner later’ or something!”
Li Mengya rolled her eyes.
Zhou Lun, Wang Feng, and Tian Zhen also gathered around Jiang Yun.
The person lying on the ground, seeing so many people surrounding him, grew a little nervous.
“Jiang Yun, call the police!” Zhou Lun urged. “If we don’t have the dinner, so be it. We absolutely can’t let these scammers get away with it, or they’ll become even more brazen!”
“Alright.” Jiang Yun nodded and took out his phone to call the police.
Hearing the threat of the police, the person on the ground suddenly panicked. He got up quickly and grabbed Jiang Yun’s arm.
Under the streetlight, Jiang Yun clearly saw it was a middle-aged woman. Jiang Yun was taken aback. “You again?!”
“You know me?”
“Heh!” Jiang Yun laughed in irritation. “Just wait—I won’t let you get away this time!”
As Jiang Yun tried to dial the police, the middle-aged woman tugged at his hand.
“I warn you, let go of me and don’t try anything funny!”
---
Jiang Yun was held back by the woman’s grip and dared not resist, fearing he might be accused of assault. He said, “Mengya, you call.”
The woman then tried to pull at Li Mengya as well.
Just then, a traffic police officer on a motorcycle arrived at the scene. “What’s going on? Why are you blocking the road?”
Seeing the officer, the woman played the victim, “Officer, this man hit me with his car and is trying to run away!”
The officer frowned.
“Heh!” Jiang Yun laughed bitterly. “Officer, here’s the situation: she’s faking the accident. My friends here can testify! Plus, I have dashcam footage!”
The mention of the dashcam made the woman uneasy.
“Enough talk. All of you, come with me!” The officer immediately called headquarters.
Before long, a police car arrived.
Realizing the police had come, the woman threw a tantrum, lying on the ground and refusing to move. “I can’t leave! This is the scene of the evidence, I have to stay here!”
Everyone frowned.
“Let’s check the dashcam footage first!” an officer instructed.
Jiang Yun put his hands on his hips. “Mengya, open your phone.”
“Okay.” Li Mengya unlocked her phone and opened the app to show the video.
She handed the phone to the officer.
The officer watched the footage carefully—from the woman falling to the ground, to blocking the car and moving to the roadside, and then the scuffle with Jiang Yun—all clearly recorded.
“I hereby officially tell you, this counts as extortion.”
“Officer, I don’t want compensation anymore. Please let me go!” the woman pleaded, growing anxious.
“Heh!” The officer laughed coldly. “Take her away! Detain her for fifteen days!”
Hearing this, the woman became even more frantic, sitting stubbornly on the ground and refusing to leave.
She continued to throw a tantrum, making it difficult for anyone to pull her up.
Just when everyone was at a loss, the woman’s phone rang. She looked at the screen and suddenly brightened.
She answered, “Hello, daughter! Hurry over! Someone’s trying to hit me here!”
Everyone rolled their eyes hearing this.
“Alright, come quickly. I’m on XX Road!”
“Pfft!” Zhou Lun spat lightly. “I don’t know what’s going on in people’s heads these days, always trying to stir trouble and never letting others live in peace.”
“She tells her daughter that? Doesn’t she think about how worried her own child must be?”
As everyone stood there in silence, the woman still lay on the ground.
“Stop lying on the ground, it’s cold!” Wang Feng teased.
“Hmph.”
“Heh.”
Everyone chuckled, including the traffic officer.
The woman’s face flushed red, feeling a bit embarrassed, and she finally sat up.
---
About forty minutes later, a Cadillac pulled up in front of the crowd. Jiang Yun was momentarily stunned.
A young woman dressed in jeans and a red jacket hurried over to the group.
“Huh?” The woman paused in surprise. “Why are there still police here?”
She approached the officer. “Officer, what’s going on here?”
“Sigh. Your mother’s faking an accident, causing trouble, and refusing to come with us to the station!”
The young woman frowned. “That’s not what she said on the phone!”
“She’s lying to you!” Wang Feng said bluntly.
“Please talk to your mother. She shouldn’t be scamming people, especially not at night—it’s unsafe!”
“Alright.” The young woman nodded.
“Besides, she’s scamming a public figure!” the officer added. After the earlier conversation, the police had figured out who Jiang Yun and his friends were.
“A public figure?!” The young woman looked at Jiang Yun and the others with surprise.
“Sigh~”
“Lu Lu!”
“Boss?!”
Li Lulu was taken aback. She never expected her mother to scam someone, and of all people, it was her own boss.
Her mind raced as she pieced together the situation. She quickly approached Jiang Yun and bowed. “Boss, I’m sorry!”
Jiang Yun felt helpless. This incident put him in a difficult position. If he pursued it, with Li Lulu here, it could get complicated. But if he let it go, this woman would certainly grow bolder next time.
The middle-aged woman watched Li Lulu call Jiang Yun “boss,” her eyes lighting up.
She stood up and came over to Jiang Yun. “So you’re Lulu’s boss? We’re all family here, family!”
Jiang Yun was speechless. This woman truly knew how to climb the ladder. “Doesn’t hurt anymore?”
The woman, Li Lulu’s mother, smiled cheerfully. “No, no, old bones just need some rest!”
Jiang Yun was at a loss for words and didn’t bother responding. He was only teasing; he wasn’t really concerned. If it weren’t for Li Lulu, she wouldn’t even have the right to speak to him.
Jiang Yun thought to himself, though no one else knew what he was thinking.
