Chapter 141: Hoodwinking
Page 1/3
Jiang Yun had just started to relax recently and really didn’t want to take on any more engagements. After some thought, he said, “Give me half a month. Let’s have a detailed discussion about this matter then.”
The other party was silent for a moment, as if consulting a superior. After a while, a voice came through the phone: “Mr. Jiang Yun, I will call you again in half a month.”
“Alright!”
“Then it’s settled!”
“Mm!”
“Beep… beep…”
Jiang Yun hung up the phone and resumed serializing his novel. Around eleven o’clock at night, he drank a cup of warm milk and then lay down to sleep soundly.
Early the next morning, Jiang Yun boarded a flight to Magic City.
After leaving the airport, Jiang Yun took out his phone and made a call: “Hello? Where are you?”
“Boss, I’m at Exit B!”
“Okay!” Jiang Yun hung up and headed toward Exit B.
He immediately spotted a Cadillac parked by the roadside.
Li Lulu sat in the driver’s seat, with the window rolled down, humming along to the music: “I’m afraid I won’t have the chance to say goodbye to you…”
Li Lulu’s expression was focused.
“Hey! What are you doing?”
“Ah!” Li Lulu was startled, then turned to see Jiang Yun standing beside the car. “Boss, you scared me!”
“What? Not even a welcome for your boss’s return?” Jiang Yun teased.
“Boss, welcome back!”
“Hmm, that’s more like it!” Jiang Yun opened the passenger door and got in.
“Let’s go!”
“Boss, where to?”
“Back to the company first.”
“Alright!”
Li Lulu started the car and drove toward the Canghai Villa Company.
Along the way, the two chatted intermittently.
After arriving at the company, Li Lulu parked the car. They got out and walked toward the office.
Taking the elevator up, Jiang Yun headed to his office, with Li Lulu following closely behind.
Jiang Yun took off his suit jacket and sat down. “Anything new recently?”
“Boss, Mao Yi has participated in several shows lately. The special effects department has been fully established, and the game development team is still in the planning stages.”
Jiang Yun listened intently as Li Lulu reported.
“Oh, by the way, boss!”
“What’s up?”
“I signed a new artist!”
“What’s the name?” Jiang Yun clasped his fingers and rested his chin thoughtfully.
“Zheng Kun.”
Jiang Yun was surprised—he hadn’t expected him to actually come.
Li Lulu pushed up her glasses. “Boss, regarding Zheng Kun, you need to personally get involved.”

“What’s the matter?”
Li Lulu rolled her eyes. “Boss, we need to create tailor-made works for Zheng Kun. How can you not step in personally?”
“I see.” Jiang Yun tapped his fingers on the desk, seeming deep in thought.
Li Lulu waited quietly.
“Let’s put this aside for now. After the recording of ‘The Voice’ is over, I plan to form a group,” Jiang Yun said.
“Alright, boss, as long as you have a plan!”
“Mm.”
Li Lulu left the office to get busy.
With nothing pressing, Jiang Yun began scheduling his upcoming days. On an A4 sheet, he wrote down the names of ‘The Voice’ contestants: Dai Quan, Zhang Ting, Li Ge, Xu Wei, Zhang Yang, Hu Wen, Zhou Shen, Zhu Lu, Zhu Xiaoxiao.
Jiang Yun opened his phone and created a group chat titled “Jiang Yun’s Team,” then added all of them.
Dai Quan: “What’s this group? The owner is Jiang Yun himself!”
Xiaoxiao: “Hello everyone, I’m Zhu Xiaoxiao!”
Xu Wei: “Xiaoxiao, I know you! I’m Xu Wei. How have you been recently?”
Xiaoxiao: “Thanks for your concern, Senior Xu Wei. I’m doing well!”
Zhang Ting: “Keep it up, Xiaoxiao!”
Zhang Yang: “Coach Jiang Yun, why did you add us to this group?”
Jiang Yun watched the chat but stayed silent.
Zhang Yang: “Coach Jiang Yun?”
Zhou Shen: “Coach Jiang Yun isn’t spying on us, is he?”
Jiang Yun smiled and typed: “The reason I created this group is to make it easier for me to guide all of you!”
He hit send.
“Ding!”
Li Ge joked, “Coach Jiang Yun, you must be a very busy man! Not sure if joining your team is a blessing or a curse.”
Jiang Yun smiled: “Everyone, if you have time these days, come by my company. I will provide you with guidance!”
Xiaoxiao: “Yay, finally we get to see Coach Jiang Yun again!”
Jiang Yun chatted with them a while longer, then exited the group chat.
“Let me call Director Liu to check on the progress of the TV series!” Jiang Yun dialed Liu Guoqiang’s number.
“Beep… beep…”
“Hello?”
“Hello, Director Liu, how have things been these days?”
Liu Guoqiang on the other end said, “Don’t mention it, there’s a mountain of issues—editing, scoring, the theme song—it’s all minor stuff. The real headache is the special effects team.”
“What happened?” Jiang Yun asked.
“Ridiculous!” Liu Guoqiang cursed. “The special effects team we agreed on breached the contract and went to work on ‘Soul Battle Continent’!”
Jiang Yun’s eyes lit up. “Director Liu, I know a special effects team that’s absolutely top-notch in the industry!”
“Really?” Liu Guoqiang asked skeptically.
“Of course! Why would I joke about something like this?” Jiang Yun replied.
“What’s the name?”
“Canghai Special Effects Team!” Jiang Yun said coolly, without a hint of hesitation.
“I’ve heard of every special effects team in the industry, but never this one,” Liu Guoqiang frowned. “Where are they located?”
“In Magic City.”
“Alright then, I’ll try to visit them when I have time!” Liu Guoqiang said.
“No, Director Liu, you should come today. Everyone wanting special effects from that company is already booked through next year! I’m afraid even if you come, you won’t get a slot!” Jiang Yun leaned back in his chair, exaggerating wildly.
“Is it really that bad?”
“Absolutely!”
“Okay, just so happens I’m free today! I’ll go check it out!” Liu Guoqiang said.
“Great, it’s settled then. When you get here, give me a call—I’ll come pick you up!”
“Alright!” Liu Guoqiang hung up, feeling that something was off.
He called his assistant: “Book me a flight to Magic City, the earliest possible today!”
“Got it!”
While Liu Guoqiang boarded the plane, Jiang Yun sat in front of his computer playing games.
At noon, Jiang Yun stretched lazily. “The games in this world are awful—terrible design, poor graphics, and even worse storylines!”
“Knock knock knock!”
“Come in!”
Li Lulu pushed open the office door, carrying a takeout meal.
She placed it on the desk. “Boss, your lunch is here!”
“I know.”
Li Lulu left the office, closing the door behind her.
Jiang Yun started eating lunch.
In the afternoon, Jiang Yun continued playing games.
“Ringing!”
Jiang Yun answered the phone.
“Hello? Jiang Yun, I’ve arrived!”
“Hehe!” Jiang Yun smirked. “Director Liu, I’m coming right now!”
“Okay!”
Jiang Yun hung up, grabbed his suit jacket, and left the office.
“Lulu, hand me the car keys!”
“Sure, boss!” Li Lulu tossed the keys to Jiang Yun.
He caught them and hurried to the elevator.
Reaching the Cadillac, Jiang Yun opened the door, got in, and closed it. Gripping the steering wheel, he said, “Since buying this car, this is one of the few times I’ve actually driven it myself!”
