That’s called single bamboo drifting, not walking on water with lightness skill!
"Spurt!" The child, whose lips had been tightly shut just moments ago, was prompted by Su Yunjin's pressure to spit out a mouthful of dirty water.
"He's alive!"
"Amazing! This young lady is incredible."
The people surrounding them relaxed as the child expelled the water, and the woman who had been wailing earlier clutched the child's head, crying loudly, "Little Bao, don't scare Mommy!"
"Move away, don't hold his head!"
Seeing that she had finally managed to open the child's airway, only for the mother to rush in with a suffocating embrace, Su Yunjin was furious. She pushed the woman aside, lifted the child by his ankles, and draped him over her own back.
"Spurt! Spurt, spurt, spurt."
With the child slung over her back, he quickly vomited up several more mouthfuls of water. The mother, pushed aside by Su Yunjin, dared not protest and could only watch as Su Yunjin handled her child like a toy, alternately carrying and shaking him.
After a while, Su Yunjin placed the child on the ground and began CPR, working tirelessly for more than ten minutes before the child finally burst out crying.
"Phew—"
Hearing the child's cry, Su Yunjin collapsed to the ground, exhausted.
"Little Bao!"
As soon as she heard her child cry, the mother rushed forward, embracing him and sobbing uncontrollably.
Those around them drew sharp breaths. "This is truly miraculous!"
"Yes, this young lady is remarkable."
"You need to keep a close eye on your child—so dangerous! If it weren't for her, you would have lost him."
People's attention was focused on the child who had fallen into the lake and his mother; some pointed, some were jubilant, others recounted the event to passersby.
Su Yunjin ignored them. She lacked the strength even to speak, and any conversation would only further burden her.
"Your foot is injured; let me help you dress and change the bandage."
As she rested, a deep voice came from above her.
She looked up to see a young man, barely in his twenties, standing behind her, wrapped in a damp blanket.
He was none other than the young man who had jumped in earlier to help rescue people.
When Su Yunjin turned, the young man gestured toward her foot.
Following his gesture, Su Yunjin looked down. Her sports pants, which reached mid-calf, were torn, and the exposed skin was streaked with blood from scrapes.
Blood trickled from her calf down to her ankle, and her feet were in a sorry state. All ten toes were scraped and raw, and a small piece of glass had pierced her little toe.
Because of the swelling from the water, Su Yunjin hadn't felt any pain until now. With the reminder, she became aware of the numb sensation in her legs and feet.
"Let me bandage it for you."
"Thank you."
Su Yunjin glanced at the medicine and bandage in his hands, accepting his help without protest.
The wounds weren't severe, but with all the bacteria in the water, infection was likely. Disinfecting and dressing them immediately was essential.
"What's your name? You were pretty impressive back there," the young man asked as he skillfully bandaged her wounds.
"You can see me?"
Su Yunjin didn't answer his question, but instead responded sharply.
Given how dangerous things had been in the water, if this man had had the strength but forced her to drag him out, it would have been tantamount to intentional murder!
"When I was rescuing the child, I saw you coming over. When you jumped in, I thought I was done for," the young man said with a bitter smile.
They always show on TV how a drowning person glimpses the surface of the water just before death. That was exactly what happened to him. As Su Yunjin reached him, he used the last of his strength to pull the child, but the vortex was too strong. No sooner had he brought the child closer than the current swept him away again.
Then he lost all strength, his body sinking slowly. He could see the ripples on the lake's surface, and at that very moment, Su Yunjin pulled him up.
He watched as Su Yunjin went to rescue the child and immediately followed with a wooden stick.
Su Yunjin, focused on pushing from behind, hadn't seen that he was exerting himself as well, carefully avoiding the muddy bottom and bracing himself against stones to resist the vortex.
His strength was nearly depleted, barely holding on, and in his moment of despair, he saw his teammates arrive.
Once they approached, he finally relaxed. As Su Yunjin climbed onto the raft, he lost consciousness from exhaustion.
After reaching the shore, his teammates attended to him, and he rested for a while before regaining the strength to stand. Now his legs, arms, and even neck were covered in fine scratches.
"I thought I was done for, too."
With her medical training, Su Yunjin understood exactly what he meant.
Her doubts were dispelled. Having survived the ordeal, both Su Yunjin and the young man smiled.
"I'm Fu Lin."
Having finished the bandaging, the young man flashed a broad smile, showing two rows of white teeth as he introduced himself.
"Su Yunjin."
Su Yunjin gave her name as well, then pointed at the bandages and disinfectant in his hands. "Why do you carry these things with you?"
"They aren't mine. I borrowed them from the others."
"That was thoughtful of you."
"Thoughtful? There's mud and plenty of trash in the lake. You went in barefoot—how could you not get injured?"
As he spoke, Fu Lin produced Su Yunjin's sports shoes from behind his back. "Here, your shoes."
"Thank you."
She took them, but didn't put them on—her injured feet made it difficult.
"Where do you live? In your condition, it's unlikely you'll make it home on your own. Let us take you," Fu Lin offered.
Su Yunjin was momentarily confused. "Us?"
"We're from the fire department," Fu Lin replied, gesturing behind him. Su Yunjin looked and saw the group of firefighters still present, watching them with interest.
One of them, seeing her glance his way, smiled and turned his back.
Now Su Yunjin understood. The man who jumped in to save people wasn't a random passerby, but a firefighter!
No wonder he could hold out in such a powerful vortex, wait for her with a child, and persist under those conditions. His physical strength was extraordinary!
"I thought so—your bandaging technique is excellent," Su Yunjin said with a smile.
Fu Lin chuckled. "Can't help it—gotta know how to do everything. But you're amazing, too. You managed to paddle over with just a wooden stick. Hey, was that some kind of lightness skill, skimming over the water?"
Su Yunjin: "..."
Could he stop asking her that?
Everyone had always asked her that since childhood—weren't they tired of it?
It's called single bamboo drifting, one of the nation's intangible cultural heritages. Could they please read more books?
She was inwardly exasperated, but patiently explained, "It's called single bamboo drifting, not some lightness skill. I don't know martial arts, and please don't ask if I do."
