034 The Final Mentor Has Been Confirmed!
Saturday.
As agreed, Su Yunjin arrived at the H City Fire Brigade.
“Hello, may I ask what brings you here?”
At the entrance, Su Yunjin was stopped by the sentry at the gate.
“I’m here to—”
“Su Yunjin!”
Before she could finish, a man’s voice came from her left.
Turning her head, Su Yunjin saw Fu Lin running toward her.
Last time they met, Fu Lin was drenched and looked quite disheveled, but today, he was no longer like a drowned rat. He wore a blue training outfit, his skin tanned, and his delicate features radiated youthful energy.
“You know her?”
“Yes, this is Su Yunjin. She’s here to receive the honorary banner. You’re busy, so I’ll handle the rest.”
Without waiting for a reply, Fu Lin darted to the security booth and brought out the registration form. “Please register first. The award ceremony will be in our team building.”
“Alright.”
Su Yunjin knew this was standard procedure and said nothing more, carefully filling in all her information.
After registering, Su Yunjin followed Fu Lin to the team hall. Though there were no reporters on site, there were still staff members responsible for publicity. Several cameras stood ready, and the captain she’d met before was present as well.
“Haha, what a challenge it was to find you. Little Fu really went to great lengths,” the captain teased Su Yunjin as soon as she entered.
“Captain, don’t say that! I’m just upholding our brigade’s mission—we can’t let the people down,” Fu Lin replied, scratching his head and grinning like a child.
Su Yunjin felt a bit embarrassed seeing him act this way. “You’ve really gone out of your way, but everyone helped me a lot. Without you during that storm, I might have been swallowed by the darkness.”
“That’s our duty,” the captain said cheerfully, though his eyes flicked toward Fu Lin.
Truthfully, Su Yunjin hadn’t left any information for the banner, so this matter should have ended there. But Fu Lin begged earnestly, insisting the brigade make up for it. He also admitted his fondness for Su Yunjin, which led to her application for the banner.
After a few brief exchanges, Su Yunjin began the ceremony to receive the honorary banner.
The ceremony was simple yet solemn. Afterward, photos were taken—some of Su Yunjin alone, others with the captain and Fu Lin.
The entire event lasted about half an hour, and soon it was over.
“Alright, now can you answer my question?” Su Yunjin asked Fu Lin as she walked out with the banner, seeing that no one else was around. “Was it you who uploaded the video? The footage from that day…”
“Hey, wait a moment,” Fu Lin interrupted her again. “Why are you so blunt? You come right out with your questions—what if I get shy?”
…Are you really shy?
Su Yunjin was speechless.
Having grown up in Zongshan, she was aware that she lacked finesse in social situations. Though it wasn’t a major flaw, when faced with someone as naturally outgoing as Fu Lin, she didn’t quite know how to handle the pace and just wanted to get her questions answered quickly.
“Come on, let me show you around our fire brigade. By the way, is your phone number also your WeChat ID? Can I look you up on WeChat with your number?”
As he spoke, Fu Lin headed toward the training ground.
“I don’t use WeChat,” Su Yunjin replied selectively, but didn’t really follow him.
Being greeted so warmly by a stranger, especially a man, she felt uncomfortable.
Fu Lin laughed heartily. “So that’s it. Oh, and why did you lie to me? You said you had a boyfriend, but the news reports say you don’t.”
Su Yunjin frowned and kept silent.
“Maybe I was too forward—sorry. But…” Fu Lin suddenly dropped his smile and looked at her seriously, his eyes shimmering, though embarrassment began to creep across his face.
“Can I… can I court you?”
“No!” Su Yunjin refused without hesitation.
The light in Fu Lin’s eyes visibly dimmed.
Su Yunjin’s expression grew stern. “I’m not fond of this kind of relationship, nor do I appreciate people playing games with me. I’ve already got my answer. I don’t know how you managed it, but I can only sincerely thank you. Thank you for liking me, and thank you for your help. But it’s best if we remain strangers.”
Besides, I doubt you’ll be heartbroken—we’ve only met twice. If you claim your heart is shattered, am I to suspect you have ulterior motives?
Su Yunjin had always been adept at rejecting others. In matters of the heart, she never liked ambiguity—if she didn’t like someone, she didn’t, and if she disagreed, she disagreed. There was no middle ground.
What connection did she really have with Fu Lin? Apart from saving him that day, they were essentially strangers. To proclaim such affections so quickly—could that really be genuine? She had no interest in instant romance.
Moreover, her temper was already well restrained. If it weren’t for this being the fire brigade, someone like Fu Lin would be treated as a nuisance.
With that, Su Yunjin ignored whatever expression Fu Lin wore and strode out of the brigade.
Once outside, she wasted no time and hailed a taxi.
Upon returning to her hotel, her phone buzzed with a text notification.
A strange number sent just three words: I’m sorry.
She didn’t need to ask—obviously, it was Fu Lin. Su Yunjin glanced at it, didn’t bother to reply, tossed her phone on the bed, and resumed her evening routine.
Sunday.
Due to the accident during the live broadcast, there was a vacancy among the mentor candidates for the C-Position Girl Group.
The production team hurried to contact new mentors, so today was still a day off for them.
The contestants, on the other hand, gained a brief respite thanks to the incident, giving them another day to practice.
However, this didn’t last long. By eight o’clock Sunday night, the final mentor for the C-Position Girl Group was confirmed.
The new mentor was also an actress, named Liang Feiyue.
Compared to Zhang Chuchu, Liang Feiyue was merely a D-list celebrity, and a comedic actress at that.
Among all these people, except for Su Yunjin, Liang Feiyue held the lowest status and rank.
As soon as the news broke, the internet exploded again.
“What the heck, Liang Feiyue?”
“No way—is this a desperate move?”
“Seriously, couldn’t they find a big-name singer?”
“Liang Feiyue, hahaha, what is this? Is she fit to be a mentor? Is the C-Position Girl Group a comedy show now?”
