076 Lu Yuanhang’s Furious Wrath! (Please Add to Favorites)
“We’re finished, absolutely finished, Yi Qing. This time, both you and I are doomed. My dad just called, and his tone was really bad.”
Inside the black minivan, Pei Xuan was already numb with dread.
He never imagined things would turn out like this in the stock market. That woman, Su Yunjin, had no sense of restraint at all—she dumped stock worth over a billion just like that, without the slightest consideration! Money was the least of it; the real problem was that both his own father and Uncle Lu were furious. How could they possibly get away unscathed this time?
Pei Xuan was panicking, but Lu Yiqing’s face remained somber and unreadable, betraying no emotion.
“Yi Qing…”
“That’s enough. Stop talking.” Rubbing his brow in frustration, Lu Yiqing reached out his hand. “Give me the project files for next month.”
“What? Yi Qing, you still have the mind to look at files right now?”
Pei Xuan was nearly in tears. Was Lu Yiqing’s work ethic not a bit too much?
“Cut the nonsense.”
“All right, here.” Unable to argue, Pei Xuan handed over the documents Lu Yiqing requested.
Lu Yiqing leafed through the materials in silence while Pei Xuan sat beside him, sighing in despair—what he hated most in life was his old man’s temper.
Now there was no avoiding a thorough scolding.
The two men returned to the Lu residence in silence. Lu Yuanhang and Pei Yuanshen were both waiting.
The difference was that Lu Yuanhang’s face was twisted with barely suppressed rage, while Pei Yuanshen’s was shadowed with worry.
“Dad, Uncle Lu, we’re back,” Pei Xuan spoke first, his voice trembling slightly as he lowered his head, avoiding his father’s gaze.
At the sight of his son, Pei Yuanshen’s anger flared. Without waiting for Lu Yuanhang to speak, he snapped at Pei Xuan, “What took you so long? Didn’t I tell you to come straight home the moment you got my call?”
“We were in the middle of a meeting. Yi Qing was giving a summary.” Pei Xuan’s voice became even smaller.
But his explanation eased Pei Yuanshen’s anger somewhat. His eyes unconsciously drifted toward Lu Yuanhang.
After so many years as father and son, Pei Xuan knew exactly what his father was up to—pleading for Lu Yiqing, hoping Uncle Lu would show leniency, because judging by his expression, things would not end well for Yi Qing today.
A true man knows when to yield and when to stand tall.
Following his father’s lead, and hoping to lessen his own punishment, Pei Xuan quickly chimed in, “That’s right, Uncle Lu, Yi Qing knows he was wrong. Please don’t be angry. Honestly, it really isn’t his fault. It’s all that woman, Song Yazhi—believe me, I saw it clearly that day. She was the one throwing herself at Yi Qing.
I wanted to stop her, but the bar was packed that night, and there wasn’t much I could do. I never imagined the paparazzi would catch it all. Yi Qing only did what he did to teach the Song family a lesson, to stop them from having delusions. Who could have guessed Su Yunjin would get involved too? She must have misunderstood.”
“Yes, Yuanhang, don’t be angry,” Pei Yuanshen quickly added, relieved that his son was saying the right things. “Yi Qing’s intentions were good.”
“Intentions were good?” Lu Yuanhang sneered, having heard enough from father and son. His glare fixed on Lu Yiqing, teeth clenched. “If his intentions were good, why did Su Yunjin act as she did? Tell me, were your intentions truly good?”
Lu Yiqing tugged at his tie, trying to draw more breath into his chest, but he said nothing. He wasn’t certain himself whether his intentions had been good or bad. All he knew was that he felt profoundly uncomfortable—this situation, this atmosphere, was unbearable.
“Kneel!”
Lu Yuanhang’s sudden command was like a lash—two words, cold and imperious.
“Dad!” Lu Yiqing was startled.
Growing up in the Lu family, he had been made to kneel many times as a child. But always in the ancestral hall—face the wall and reflect—a private space.
Now, this was the main hall, with gardeners and maids coming and going, and with Pei Xuan and Pei Yuanshen present as well.
Kneel? He was really to kneel here?
“What’s the matter? Didn’t you hear me? Kneel, now!” When Lu Yiqing hesitated, Lu Yuanhang, enraged, grabbed a riding crop from the wall and strode toward him.
“Yuanhang, Yuanhang!” Pei Yuanshen hurried to intervene.
Pei Xuan rushed forward as well. “Uncle Lu, please, calm down! Let’s talk things through—Yi Qing has to work tomorrow!”
“Both of you, get out of my way!” Lu Yuanhang was determined, struggling to break free from Pei Xuan and Pei Yuanshen’s grip.
But they were all men, and Pei Xuan, young and strong, restrained him with Yuanshen’s help. Lu Yuanhang was unable to move.
All he could do was shout, “If I don’t teach this brat a lesson today, he’ll never grasp the magnitude of his mistake! Do you know how much of the Lu family’s wealth evaporated on the stock market today? And you have the nerve to stand there—kneel!”
Raging, he tried to charge forward, but Pei Xuan and Pei Yuanshen held him fast.
“Get out of my way, both of you! Or I’ll beat you too! Yuanshen, don’t make me lose my temper!” Lu Yuanhang continued to struggle.
“Yuanhang, please calm down. Yi Qing is still a child,” Pei Yuanshen pleaded.
“A child? If I’d known he’d turn out like this, I never should have saved him back then! Now, Yi Hong is lying in the hospital, kept alive only by the Five Elders of the Seven Sects. What’s so hard about marrying into the Seven Sects? Does it wrong you? Is it a death sentence?
You keep pulling tricks behind my back, don’t think I don’t know! And today you’ve made a mess of things again. If I don’t beat you senseless today—out of my way, both of you!”
The more he spoke, the angrier he became.
He had spent years painstakingly arranging this marriage alliance with the Seven Sects, even swallowing his pride to persuade Su Yunjin to come down from the mountain. All so that the two children could spend time together. Maybe not fall deeply in love, but at least not dislike one another. There was time—marriage didn’t need fiery passion, quiet companionship would suffice.
Who could have foreseen that his own son would provoke Su Yunjin to the point where she sold off all the Lu family’s shares?
He didn’t know every detail, but he trusted Su Yunjin’s character and what sort of person the Seven Sects chose as their heir. She wouldn’t act without reason, nor would rumors arise out of nowhere. It was all the doing of his rebellious son.
At that moment, Lu Yuanhang truly wished he could beat the boy to death.
“I understand, Dad. If you insist on beating me today, fine. Go ahead. Not enough with my clothes on? Then let me make it easier for you.”
With that, Lu Yiqing dropped to his knees with a thud, stripped off his suit and shirt, and bared his torso.
Pei Yuanshen was stunned.
Pei Xuan was stunned.
The moment Lu Yiqing spoke, both father and son turned their heads, releasing their hold on Lu Yuanhang in unison.
Kneeling there, Lu Yiqing continued, “Uncle Pei, Pei Xuan, don’t interfere. As I’ve always said, there’s no possibility between me and Su Yunjin! If you want to beat me, then do it. If the riding crop isn’t enough, choose something else. As long as I live, I will never marry Su Yunjin!”
