Chapter 12: In High Demand for Signing
Li Xiguang looked at the “evidence” in his hand and smiled cruelly.
“People only believe the ultimate winner, so Song Liang, I’m sorry.”
Even though he knew the evidence he held was fabricated, Li Xiguang remained full of confidence. When justice is on your side, people will believe the evidence of the righteous party.
To bring Song Liang down, to utterly ruin his reputation—that would be enough.
In the ward of Modu Hospital, Su Bai sat beside the hospital bed, gently peeling an apple.
Yang Mengke put down her phone, gazing at her brother with an expression of pure admiration.
She had always imagined her brother as a superhero, and in her heart, she had always seen him that way.
But she had never expected that her brother would one day truly become a superhero.
When she first saw the torrents of criticism against her brother online, Yang Mengke was furious.
Furious at how unfair fate could be.
Her brother had simply sung a song, and just because it became popular, he had to suffer such jealousy.
She felt frustrated that she couldn't help him in any way.
She became deeply annoyed.
Now, seeing the online comments about her brother transform into unanimous praise, with everyone marveling at his astonishing talent—
Two completely different styles of songs, yet he could master them so perfectly.
Yang Mengke felt genuine happiness.
It seemed even greater than if she herself had achieved such success.
“Brother, the research institute you mentioned for that medicine, you made it all up, didn’t you?”
Hearing Yang Mengke’s words, Su Bai’s hand stopped mid-peel.
He felt a bit nervous inside.
When it came to the system, he didn't know how to explain it to Yang Mengke.
“That was a military research institute, right? Did you get that medicine because you helped the police?”
Relieved by her question, Su Bai admired Yang Mengke’s imagination, and nodded in agreement.
“Xiao Ke, I’m sorry. I didn’t tell you before because I didn’t want you to worry…”
“But you don’t need to think about any of that. Focus on recovering. Trust me, you’ll be better in no time!”
Su Bai’s gaze at Yang Mengke was filled with tenderness and care.
Yang Mengke seemed to savor the moment, smiling sweetly.
“Brother, how are you so calm? You’re famous beyond measure now, and you don’t feel anything!”
“You don’t even check your phone!”
As she mentioned the phone, suddenly Su Bai’s phone rang.
“Hello, is this Mr. Su Bai?”
“Yes, speaking. Who is this?”
“Hello, I’m Xia Xiaohe from Xingyue Media. I wonder if you’ve heard of Xingyue Media?”
Su Bai certainly knew Xingyue Media, home to countless singers—more than a dozen top-tier artists, and even one who had made it into the national team.
Back when Yang Mengke was in the entertainment industry, Xingyue Media was the company she looked up to.
“Yes! How can I help you?”
“Well, I’m the assistant to Li Xiguang, Senior Vice President of Xingyue Media. The 600th Anniversary Song Competition for the Forbidden City, which you participated in, is managed by us at Xingyue Media.”
“And our Vice President Li is the national director of this event!”
“Just now, Vice President Li told me he’s interested in signing you and can offer you an A-level contract!”
Su Bai was about to refuse outright, but Yang Mengke, upon hearing this, became so excited she nearly jumped out of her seat.
She mouthed to Su Bai: “Say yes! Say yes!”
Having once worked in the entertainment industry, Yang Mengke knew well what an A-level contract meant.
It meant countless resources, boundless possibilities.
But Su Bai’s thoughts turned to Song Liang.
Since Xingyue Media was in charge, with Li Xiguang as the main director and Song Liang as the deputy, signing with Xingyue Media would essentially mean signing with Song Liang.
Su Bai had a suspicion: Song Liang had previously mentioned someone was targeting him behind the scenes, that was why Su Bai’s reputation had been smeared.
Though he couldn’t be certain, Su Bai’s intuition told him the culprit was most likely Li Xiguang.
“Signing with Xingyue Media would be an honor, but I’ll need some time before I can reply.”
After Su Bai hung up the phone, Yang Mengke looked at her brother in confusion.
She knew her brother must have his reasons for doing so!
After Su Bai explained about Song Liang, Yang Mengke agreed: one should not forget their roots and must know gratitude. This was a principle Su Bai had always taught her.
At the headquarters of Xingyue Media in Yanjing, Xia Xiaohe spoke excitedly, “President Li, it’s done.”
“He said signing with Xingyue Media would be his honor, but he wants to get back to us later. I think he wants to learn more about the A-level contract, maybe some precautions. After all, he was just an ordinary person before, so he must be unfamiliar with the industry!”
Hearing this, Li Xiguang was overjoyed.
Signing this delivery man would definitely be a major asset.
“Where is he? Let’s fly there directly, to show our sincerity!”
Xia Xiaohe paused. He had just participated in the song competition in Modu; of course, he was still in Modu, where else would he be?
But Xia Xiaohe dared not say more, simply replied, “Modu!”
Modu, Modu, Modu—Li Xiguang repeated the city’s name several times, then burst into laughter. “Even heaven favors me! Buy tickets now; we’re flying to Modu immediately!”
Suddenly, Song Liang received a notification from Li Xiguang.
He said there would be a press conference at six in the evening, to announce to all journalists the progress of the Forbidden City cultural song campaign.
Though Song Liang didn't know what Li Xiguang was up to, he felt an ominous premonition.
He suspected Li Xiguang was planning to challenge him at the press conference.
He pondered for a long time, but couldn’t figure out what Li Xiguang’s leverage might be.
If Su Bai’s “Lone Warrior” hadn’t exploded in popularity, Li Xiguang might have used this incident as an excuse to target him.
But now Su Bai represented positive energy, officially endorsed by the armed police.
Would Li Xiguang dare risk universal condemnation to attack Su Bai, or to attack him?
He wasn’t that foolish!
But to be safe, Song Liang decided he needed to prepare.
He dialed Su Bai’s number.
Signing Su Bai would be his greatest asset.
Even if Li Xiguang tried to challenge him, as long as he had Su Bai’s signing as an achievement, he would be unassailable.
“Su Bai, are you finished for the day?”
“Brother Song, if you need something, just say it!”
“Alright, Su Bai, I won’t beat around the bush. I know if I don’t act soon, someone else will snatch you up.”
“Would you be interested in signing with our company? We are Xingyue Media.”
“Not claiming to be the best in the country, but we’re among the top, with countless singers and actors, plenty of big names.”
“What do you think? Interested? I can fight for an A-level contract for you!”
Su Bai smiled wryly—again!
“How about we discuss it in person?”
Hearing this, Song Liang was overjoyed. As long as Su Bai agreed to meet, half the deal was already done!
