Volume One, Chapter 20: Fu Yang Backs Down
Among the local gangs of Donghai, only the Tiger Hall could rival the power of the Triad; the rest simply paled in comparison. As for the Four Great Families, their wealth might surpass that of the Triad, but the Triad’s foothold in Donghai was never built on money alone. Even the formidable Fu family dared not openly clash with the Triad.
Huang Biao swept his gaze across the crowd in the auction hall, finally settling on Yun Xueyan.
“The Huang family’s land isn’t something your Yun family can develop. Rather than letting it rot in your hands, why not transfer it to us, the Triad? What do you say?” Huang Biao’s rough voice boomed.
Yun Xueyan’s brows knitted slightly. “Elder Huang, you must be joking. The Yun family is fully capable of developing that land ourselves; it certainly won’t be left unfinished.”
Huang Biao snorted coldly. “If I say it’ll be left unfinished, then it surely will. No one but the Triad can develop that land.”
He went on, “Miss Yun, for the sake of your grandfather, I won’t make things difficult for you today. Just hand over the Huang family’s land to the Triad.”
“Of course, I won’t ask you to give it away for nothing. I’m willing to pay three billion for it.”
As soon as Huang Biao spoke, the auction hall erupted in heated discussion.
Three billion?
The auction had just concluded, and Yun Xueyan had won the land for a staggering seven point six billion. Now Huang Biao wanted to buy it for only three billion? It was nothing short of daylight robbery.
Upon hearing Huang Biao’s offer, Yun Xueyan’s expression darkened.
She replied with restrained anger, “Elder Huang, the auction only just ended. Leaving aside the fact that the Yun family needs that land, we spent seven point six billion to secure it. Surely your offer is inappropriate?”
Huang Biao snorted again. “Inappropriate? Ha! No one dares say my terms are inappropriate. So what if you bid seven point six billion? If I say the land is worth three billion, then that’s all it’s worth.”
“Miss Yun, I hope you don’t make things difficult for me. Three billion is already a favor for your grandfather’s sake. If it were anyone else, I wouldn’t even offer one billion.”
“I advise you to think carefully before you answer. I didn’t come here today intending to leave empty-handed. Either I take the paperwork for the land with me, or you come with me instead.”
Huang Biao’s words made his intentions plain—he was here to take what he wanted, not to negotiate. If Yun Xueyan didn’t hand over the land to the Triad at a fraction of the price, Huang Biao clearly wouldn’t let the matter rest.
Chu Ming watched Huang Biao coolly, just about to step in for Yun Xueyan, when several new figures entered the hall. Leading the group was none other than Fu Yang, the eldest son of the Fu family, followed by his well-paid bodyguards.
Fu Yang marched straight up to Huang Biao, displeased. “Elder Huang, today’s auction is hosted by my family. Bringing people here to cause trouble isn’t exactly proper.”
“The Fu family has always kept clear boundaries with the Triad. If you act like this, who will dare attend our auctions in the future?”
He turned to Yun Xueyan, a hint of greed in his eyes. “Miss Yun, rest assured, your safety is guaranteed at our Fu family’s auction.”
Afterward, Fu Yang glanced at Chu Ming, who hadn’t spoken, and sneered. “Hmph. A man who only knows how to stand behind a woman—how disgraceful.”
Huang Biao sized up Fu Yang. “Are you sure you want to interfere in this matter?”
Fu Yang answered firmly, “I am. This is my concern.”
“Though the Fu family has withdrawn from Donghai, we’re not to be trampled on at will. Today, I’m taking charge.”
Huang Biao raised his hand and slapped Fu Yang across the face. The sharp sound echoed through the auction hall, leaving everyone stunned.
No one had expected Huang Biao to strike Fu Yang so suddenly.
Fu Yang was dumbfounded.
He was the eldest son of the Fu family.
For Huang Biao to hit him was tantamount to slapping the Fu family itself. How could he dare?
Before Fu Yang could react, Huang Biao’s menacing voice rang out.
“Boy, if your father were here, I might show him some respect. But you think you can use the Fu family to pressure me? Do you think I’ve wasted all these years in Donghai?”
Fu Yang looked at Huang Biao with a dark expression, anger rising in his chest.
Though he wasn’t yet the head of the Fu family, as the eldest son, he represented the family in all his actions. Now Huang Biao had humiliated him so openly, in front of so many people—how could he swallow such an insult?
The more Fu Yang thought, the angrier he became. Clenching his fists, he gritted his teeth. “Huang Biao, I called you Elder out of respect, but you’ve humiliated me like this. Do you really think the Fu family is easy to bully?”
Huang Biao laughed. “So what if I humiliated you? Are you planning to fight me?”
Fu Yang snorted. “I want to see just how mighty the Triad truly is.”
With that, Fu Yang ordered his bodyguards to charge at Huang Biao. These guards were carefully selected and highly skilled—each could easily handle a dozen ordinary men.
Huang Biao sneered. “You think those useless men can take me on? You really don’t know your limits.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Huang Biao told his own men to respond.
In just a few breaths, Fu Yang’s elite bodyguards were knocked to the ground by the Triad experts.
Fu Yang’s face changed. Without his guards, fear crept into his heart.
Huang Biao looked at him with amusement. “Do you still want to interfere?”
Fu Yang’s expression shifted. Though he longed to regain his dignity, the Triad’s strength was undeniable, and all his confidence meant nothing to Huang Biao. What else could he do?
Seeing Fu Yang hesitate, Huang Biao turned to Yun Xueyan. “Miss Yun, my patience is limited. I hope you’ll make the wise choice. If you don’t agree to my terms, don’t blame me for being ruthless.”
Yun Xueyan was about to speak when Chu Ming pulled her behind him, stepping forward. “The Triad’s arrogance knows no bounds. Do you really think a bit of power lets you force your will on others?”
Huang Biao raised an eyebrow at Chu Ming. “Oh? Judging by your stance, you’re eager to play the hero, aren’t you?”
