Chapter 147: Could the Boss Be a Bit More Impressive?
“I’ll bet a million! I’ve played God of War 3 too—no damage in a livestream? That’s basically impossible!”
A million? Who’s this big spender? Even converting Stardust Coins to Huayuan currency, that’s easily tens of thousands.
No surprise—the only one wealthy enough to make such a bet is Wudao, a so-called “god spender” certified by the Stardust platform. Wudao rarely visits the Stardust platform, but when he does, he came across Luo Chen explaining the criteria for “no damage.” Seeing the flood of betting comments, he decided to join in.
Specially certified viewers like him leave a visible trace when sending comments. The same goes for top-tier players and wealthy patrons recognized by Stardust across various regions. This is a special honor granted by the platform. Of course, anonymity is an option, but few choose it.
Many big spenders shell out money for the sake of prestige. If Stardust didn’t highlight them, who would bother spending here?
Seeing the comment came from Wudao, the audience didn’t bat an eye. They’re used to the world of gods and millionaires—something they can’t comprehend.
However, the envious and resentful UP hosts kept a close watch on the health bar in the upper left corner of the screen. If it wavered even slightly… well, they’d pounce.
“Let’s roast him alive.”
Yet, the God of War, Kratos, seemed to be cheating. Throughout the journey, whether facing skeleton guards or the mini-boss crab-claw hippocampus that had taken forever to fight, Kratos remained unscathed. Every attack was blocked or parried—without exception.
So these skeptics pinned their hopes on the prologue’s gatekeeper boss, Poseidon. They didn’t expect the Sea God to be unbeatable, but at least he should put on a fight—not fall so easily. Even if he could only land a single hit, they’d be satisfied.
Amid the crowd’s anticipation, a towering water column erupted from the sea. Several gargantuan crab-claw tentacles with horse bodies rose from the ocean floor, binding the Earth Goddess Gaia in place. The waves parted to reveal a colossal figure.
Poseidon gripped his trident, pointing it directly at Kratos as he roared furiously.
“How dare you challenge me, mortal?”
The Sea God’s imposing debut thrilled those who harbored doubts. The mini-boss crab-claw hippocampus that Kratos had struggled with was merely a fraction of one of Poseidon’s tentacles, showcasing the deity’s immense power.
Yet, despite his massive frame, Poseidon was only about the size of Gaia’s palm. The battle took place atop Gaia’s head—a mountain-climbing old stone woman—who could only endure the assault passively. If anyone was to fight back, it had to be Kratos.
The first phase of the game flow required breaking the crab-claw tentacles binding Gaia, all while Poseidon interfered.
Poseidon struck the battlefield wielding his trident, which crackled with pale blue electricity. Electric currents surged from the ground as he swung downward, unleashing several lightning bolts as thick as tree trunks...
“Watch Poseidon’s trident—if it starts sparking, prepare to dodge. The ground will soon be electrified…”
Before Luo Chen could finish, a pale blue lightning bolt crashed down. Luckily, he had Kratos roll backward just in time, narrowly evading the strike from above. Taking damage at the start would have ruined the no-hit run.
Next came a massive crab claw descending. Tired of dodging, Luo Chen cast a spell to cancel the attack.
During spellcasting, the character became temporarily invincible and could deal damage. However, health and magic in the God of War series do not regenerate automatically. Replenishment requires opening supply crates or killing specific enemies, so conservation was key—never wasting resources.
With the thrilling and tense opening, even forced to use magic once, the viewers who disliked Luo Chen jumped in with glee.
“You can’t even survive this without magic? I thought you were so skilled.”
“Poseidon is mighty! Come on, be stronger! That was almost it!”
“Where’s the lightning speed lightning? The developers slack off if it’s dodgeable!”
“Isn’t he unharmed? Just a close call. You haters can’t stand it, huh?”
“Exactly, haters, buzz off!”
“Am I the only one feeling sorry for Gaia? Kratos and Poseidon fight atop her head—getting stabbed by a trident there must hurt!”
...
The comment section once again turned into a battlefield. Luo Chen sighed. With over twenty million viewers, even having half as fans was fortunate. The rest were a mixed bag—many dissatisfied, many just watching for the drama. To quell the chaos, Luo Chen explained.
“When you see electricity on the ground, it’s best to dodge immediately. But for efficiency, I don’t always do that. Dodging right before the lightning strikes works just as well. Enemies are aggressive on Chaos difficulty; if you dodge every attack, you’d never finish. As for why I used magic…”
Luo Chen trailed off because on-screen, Kratos shattered the claw binding Gaia. The blue soul dropped replenished the magic fully. Knowing this, it would be foolish not to use magic.
“Ha! You haters are dumbfounded now—finishing with full magic.”
“Angel大神 really pushes for efficiency. Dodging lightning at the last moment? Impressive!”
“Is the first phase really over? Can Poseidon be any stronger? What about boss dignity?”
“This Sea God’s power is weak? That’s disappointing.”
...
After Luo Chen’s explanation, what had seemed tense and exciting to viewers became effortless and elegant. Whether it was Poseidon’s trident, the falling lightning, or the giant claws descending, Luo Chen would always evade or negate at the final moment.
After so long, Kratos hadn’t lost a single sliver of health. Poseidon is the Sea God, after all. With the home advantage, how could he be so weak?
Could the boss be any more formidable?
