Chapter 125: Seeking Opportunities to Learn
Upon seeing the price, even the usually composed Chen Xujia could not sit still.
The jacket alone cost sixteen thousand—nearly half of her monthly income. When adding up the entire ensemble, it easily amounted to two months of her salary.
Lin Luoyou was even less successful at maintaining her composure. She accidentally knocked her knee against a hidden cabinet under the desk and winced in pain. Sensing that the noise had drawn the attention of those around her, she offered an awkward, apologetic smile:
"Sorry, I bumped into something..."
She then grabbed her water cup and limped toward the pantry.
By the time she returned, having gone through the motions of fetching water, she saw Chen Xujia, Yang Tianqi, and a few others gathering their notebooks to leave. Curiosity got the better of her:
"Xujia, are you all heading to a meeting?"
"Yes, we're meeting with Group One and the Marketing Department to discuss the product tags for women's apparel."
Perhaps spurred by Cheng Li’s behavior over the past two days, a spark of determination ignited within Lin Luoyou:
"Xujia, could I join you to observe and learn?"
Afraid of being rejected, she quickly added, "I’ve already finished all the tasks on my plate."
Having a motivated team member was a good thing, and more heads meant more perspectives, so Chen Xujia naturally did not object.
Lin Luoyou beamed, grabbed her notebook, and hurried along behind them toward the conference room.
***
This project had been initiated by colleagues in Group One of the Merchandise Operations Department.
After the pre-sales event launched on the evening of the 23rd, members of their group noticed that the data analysis was taking an excessively long time. Upon discussing it in a meeting, they concluded it was related to the underlying algorithms.
They reasoned that if they could convert the underlying logic into individual tags that required no further calculation, they could simply call upon them whenever needed, thereby saving a significant amount of time.
With this idea in mind, Liao Yingying approached Chen Xujia. The two put their heads together and decided the project was both feasible and necessary. After consulting with the data analysis department, they chose to use one product category as a pilot test. If successful, the system could be rolled out across all categories.
Because the women’s apparel category contained a vast number of sub-categories and leaf categories, and historical data extraction for women's clothing was a typical bottleneck, they decided to meet with the business team in Marketing responsible for women's wear to discuss the feasibility of the plan.
When Chen Xujia and her team arrived at the conference room, Liao Yingying and the others were already seated and mid-discussion.
The room was mid-sized, but it felt cramped once the entire group squeezed inside.
"Wait, we're still two chairs short?"
Once everyone had settled into the available seats, Lin Luoyou realized there were no spots left. Aside from herself, the new intern, Zhao Mian, was also standing nearby.
If it had just been her, Lin Luoyou would have been content to stand in the corner. But with such a high-profile figure present, she didn’t dare let him stand there with her like they were being punished:
"Um, I'll go borrow two chairs from the room next door!"
With that, she set her notebook down on the table and hurried out to find chairs.
By the time she pushed the chairs back into the room, she found that He Suzhen was now standing in the corner, while Zhao Mian was sitting in what had previously been her spot.
"My back—I've been sitting for too long, I need to stand for a bit to recover," He Suzhen explained as she helped push the chairs into place.
