Chapter 147 Feeding the Cat
Qian Bin's eyes darted beneath lids that barely seemed different whether open or closed, shifting back and forth between Qin Shishen and Lin Luoyou. Before Qin Shishen could make an introduction, Qian Bin smiled and extended his hand.
"Hi, I'm Qian Bin. 'Bin' as in the character for forest with three drops on top. Shishen's friend, and also the manager of this pet shop."
Lin Luoyou smiled as well and extended her right hand. Their fingertips brushed briefly before they parted.
With his hand withdrawn, Qian Bin seemed possessed by the spirit of a receptionist as he cheerfully asked, "So, Miss Lin, are you here today because your pet at home is sick? Or are you hoping to look at some kittens and maybe adopt one?"
"My two are downstairs. I'm just showing her around," Qin Shishen replied while extending his right hand toward Qian Bin.
"Alright, take your time looking around then." Qian Bin understood the gesture instantly, speaking as he reached into his pocket for a ring of keys. "And here I was wondering when you suddenly became so kind-hearted that you'd come all the way just to see me."
The cats and dogs centrally raised by the pet shop were all kept on the third floor. For safety reasons, a security door had been installed between the second and third floors, and the keys were held only by Qian Bin and a few handlers and nutritionists.
Qin Shishen led Lin Luoyou up to the third floor. As soon as they stepped up, Lin Luoyou immediately noticed that the temperature was much higher and instinctively unbelted her trench coat.
Qin Shishen glanced at her and explained, "Because this floor is mainly for cats, their ideal ambient temperature is between twenty-nine and thirty-one degrees Celsius. Qian Bin's shop generally keeps the indoor temperature right around thirty degrees."
They continued forward, Qin Shishen introducing things to Lin Luoyou as they walked.
The floor space was vast, but during the renovations, the pet shop had partitioned it into several small private rooms of about twenty square meters each. Every room contained ten independent modular wooden compartments.
Kittens under one year old shared a "dormitory" of three, while cats over a year old could have a whole compartment to themselves.
In every room, besides the sleeping compartments, there was also a miniature "playground." In Qin Shishen's words, if cats were kept cooped up in cages all the time, they would grow depressed, so they needed to be let out for appropriate exercise.
Qin Shishen raised his wrist to check the time, turned his head, and extended an invitation. "It's time for their second meal now. Care to give it a try?"
"Me?" Lin Luoyou pointed at herself, pleasantly surprised. "Is that allowed?"
Qin Shishen did not speak, but he proved it to Lin Luoyou through his actions.
He signaled for her to wait a moment, then turned and headed to the cubicle at the end of the corridor. A few minutes later, he returned carrying a blue bucket, with a brand-new set of work clothes in his other hand.
After changing into their work clothes and putting on gloves, Qin Shishen unlocked the door to one of the "collective apartments."
He then skillfully unlocked the compartments, cleaned the litter boxes, and replaced each one with a fresh food bowl. Next, he took a small amount of kitten food that had already been soaked in goat milk from the bucket and spooned it in.
"You come here often." Lin Luoyou observed Qin Shishen's movements and stated it as a certainty.
"Mm. I come whenever I have free time."
Lin Luoyou nodded, softly muttered "that's nice," and then began imitating Qin Shishen's actions to take care of the remaining compartments.
For a time, both of them were fully focused on feeding the cats, and the only sounds in the room were those made by the felines.
Right then, a commotion suddenly echoed from outside the door, and Qian Bin hurried upstairs, accompanied by two people wearing red volunteer vests.
