When Qin Shishen placed the bead he had picked up into Lin Luyou’s hand, he suddenly caught sight of a red mark on her left wrist. Lin Luyou quickly wiped away the beads of blood that had oozed out, saying, “Oh, it’s nothing. Probably just got scratched by Lovely earlier. It’s just a tiny wound—it’ll be fine in a couple of days.”

But Qin Shishen didn’t agree. He hurried upstairs, grabbed a first aid kit, and after a simple treatment, insisted on taking Lin Luyou with him to the nearest hospital.

“Boss… it’s really just a scratch, there’s no need,” she protested.

“That won’t do. When the skin is broken by an animal scratch, it’s best to get a rabies shot. Even though I regularly deworm Lovely and Cola, they still go outside to play all the time. Being cautious doesn’t hurt. Besides, you got injured in my shop. I have to make sure you’re alright.”

Dragged along, Lin Luyou ended up getting the shot. As she pressed a cotton swab to her wound, she mused in her heart about the unpredictability of life: who could have imagined that on such a joyful day, she would have to suffer a random injection? There probably wasn’t anyone in the world more unlucky than herself.

“Where are you heading next? I’ll take you,” Qin Shishen offered, raising his head to see Lin Luyou slumping with an exhausted look. “And remember, don’t eat spicy food these next few days, and avoid strong tea and coffee.”

“Mm, I’ll remember. Sorry to trouble you and make you spend money,” Lin Luyou nodded, then took her medical record from Qin Shishen’s hand.

She had wanted to turn down his kindness, but his insistence left her no choice but to get into his car again.

“There’s candy in the drawer in front of you. Take as much as you like,” Qin Shishen said, glancing at her in the passenger seat and breaking the silence.

Following his suggestion, Lin Luyou opened the drawer and found a large bag of handmade candies, packaged just like those from his shop.

“I didn’t expect you to carry so much candy with you.”

Qin Shishen smiled without explaining, then asked, “You’ve looked glum all the way here. Did something happen again?”

“Why ‘again’? I was just reflecting on how joy turned to misfortune. I was just celebrating, and then got jabbed with a needle. It really doesn’t seem worth it.”

With that, Lin Luyou opened up, recounting her journey from the interview to receiving the notification. After her rambling tale, Qin Shishen smoothly parked the car at the gate of A University.

“…Boss, I have one more question,” Lin Luyou said as she opened the car door, turning back to look at him, “Will Lovely and Cola still be in your shop in the future?”

“So that’s what you’ve been wanting to ask all this way,” he replied.

“Lovely is really well-behaved; today was just an accident. Honestly, it was my fault. If I hadn’t gotten so excited and startled her, none of this would’ve happened… They’re both adorable and so good. Could you please keep them in the shop?”

“Don’t worry. You’re pleading for them before I even thought of doing anything. Rest assured, when you come by next time, you’ll see everything just as it was.”

Receiving his definite answer, Lin Luyou grinned and thanked Qin Shishen, then bounced energetically through the campus gate as if she’d been recharged.

Watching her retreating figure, Qin Shishen smiled to himself:

Her love for cats is just as strong as it was when she was a child.
