Qin Shishen heard the doorbell ring but didn’t turn around.
“Sorry, we’re a bit busy right now, so I might have to ask you to wait a little.”
He thought it was another customer coming to place an order.
“That’s fine, I’m in no hurry,” Lin Luyou quickly replied.
She truly wasn’t pressed for time. To put it nicely, she was here to relax and spend time with the cats; more bluntly, she was “supervising” while waiting for her drink.
“You’re here? Want some candy? Orders might take a bit,” Qin Shishen said, recognizing her as Lin Luyou. While grabbing some cream from the fridge, he looked up and made polite conversation.
Lin Luyou didn’t bother with formalities. She straightened up, reached into the bar area, and deftly took three or five candies from the glass tray.
“No worries, actually the order you’re working on is mine…”
She spoke quietly, then quickly changed the subject.
“Why haven’t I seen Cola and Cute today?”
She hadn’t forgotten her true purpose for coming. Glancing around and not seeing the two cats, she couldn’t help but ask.
“Those two? They’re upstairs. Probably still sleeping at this hour.”
As if sensing her disappointment, Qin Shishen asked,

“You seem so interested in them every time you visit. Do you have cats yourself?”
“No,” Lin Luyou said, popping a candy into her mouth, her words slightly muffled, “I’d like to, but my mom is allergic to cat fur…”
So, I’ve set a small goal for myself: to achieve freedom to hang out with cats!
“I still remember when I was little, I found a tiny kitten on the roadside, barely bigger than my palm.”
As she spoke, Lin Luyou reminisced, using her hands to show the size.
“I couldn’t help myself and brought it home. My mom was terrified.”
“That night, my dad took the kitten out to ‘set it free.’ I have no idea how it fared afterward.”
That little kitten ended up living quite the comfortable life.
Qin Shishen continued the story silently in his heart.
Not only did he know the kitten had a good life, he also remembered that Lin Luming had been scolded for the incident.
The reason was simple: when Lin Luming and Lin Luyou found the kitten, Qin Shishen was nearby, watching.
He had actually spotted the kitten first, saw how hungry it looked, and planned to bring it some goat milk from home.
When he returned with the warmed milk bottle, he saw the siblings bent over a cardboard box, whispering.
Then Lin Luyou gently picked up the kitten, placed it on Lin Luming’s coat, and together they carefully carried it home, as if cradling some rare treasure.

But the kitten didn’t even spend a full night at their house before Uncle Lin took it away.
Coincidentally, Qin Shishen’s bedroom window faced the Lin family’s front door, so he witnessed the entire process of Lin’s father carrying the kitten out.
Without hesitation, he followed and took the kitten from Uncle Lin, thus becoming its caretaker.
He hadn’t had time to tell the little girl she could come over to play with the kitten, before he learned her family was moving away.
With their departure, contact was severed completely.
He had thought that perhaps they would never meet again in this lifetime, or if they did, they wouldn’t recognize each other, forever passing as strangers.
But the world is small.
After all these years, fate brought them together once more.
Qin Shishen couldn’t help but marvel at the mysterious workings of destiny.
“Those two always nap at three in the afternoon. If you come around noon or after work, they’ll be at their liveliest.”
