After work, Lin Luyou, under the pretense of delivering dinner to her best friend, once again detoured into the Star Rain Café, which wasn’t at all on the way to Jiang Xiaohan’s company.

The omelet rice Xu Jia recommended last time was truly delicious, she thought, and as a good friend, she simply had to share it with her.

With this in mind, Lin Luyou slipped into the café and deftly scooped up the adorable cat from the climbing frame and nestled it into her arms.

There weren’t many customers today either—just a few scattered here and there. Spotting Qin Shishen busy in the shop, Lin Luyou waved to catch his attention and called out,

“Good evening! I’ll have an omelet rice, please! The one with tender beef and the special toppings!”

Perhaps because they’d met a few times and shared a heartfelt conversation the night before, Lin Luyou felt much closer to Qin Shishen now.

He jotted down her order with a smile, a hint of surprise in his tone. “Didn’t expect you to know about our secret menu!”

“Of course!” Lin Luyou replied, though in truth, she’d only learned about it from Chen Xujia the last time she brought her team here for dinner.

Xiao Song, busily tidying up, naturally didn’t miss their interaction. Once Lin Luyou took her seat, he shot a teasing look at his boss, as if to say: Really? And you still claim there’s nothing between you two?

“Table twelve just ordered an omelet rice—stop dawdling and get to work!” Xiao Song glanced toward table twelve, then joked, “Boss, you sure you don’t want to make this loving dinner yourself?”

“Go on, go on! If you keep playing matchmaker, believe me, I’ll serve you up first!” Qin Shishen retorted.

Since Jiang Xiaohan had to take meeting notes during her conference, Lin Luyou decided to order her own meal first. She’d package Xiaohan’s portion later, once the meeting was over, so her friend could eat and edit at the same time without having to go hungry.

After finishing her meal, Lin Luyou asked Qin Shishen for a can of cat food. She idled away the time, playing with the cat at her table.

The little one must have worn herself out running wild somewhere during the day; now, she seemed drowsy, half-closing her eyes as she leaned against Lin Luyou’s now-full, round belly. This was when she was at her sweetest, content to be petted however Lin Luyou pleased. Even when Lin Luyou paused to check her phone, the cat protested—rubbing her belly against Lin Luyou and mewing, “Meow, meow.”

This creature was simply, outrageously adorable.

“What did you say?”

Hearing Jiang Xiaohan’s puzzled voice through the phone, Lin Luyou realized she’d spoken her thoughts out loud.

“Uh, nothing, nothing! You’re done with your meeting, right? I’ll bring your dinner over in a bit!”

She flagged down Xiao Song as he passed by. “Excuse me, I’ll have another omelet rice, with tender beef and the house sauce. But no scallions on this one. Oh, and make it to go, please!”

Xiao Song repeated her order and headed to the kitchen. At the door, he sighed at Qin Shishen.

“Boss, it’s not that I don’t want to help you, but it’s obvious that girl already has someone. See, she just placed another order to deliver to someone else. I told you to make your move sooner, but you wouldn’t listen. Now look, you’d better give up!”

Seeing Xiao Song act so worldly-wise, Qin Shishen couldn’t help but laugh and sigh. If only he spent as much energy on his own affairs as he did on gossiping, he’d have a girlfriend by now. He was still single himself, yet he was lecturing him?
