Chapter 069: The Younger Sister Arrives
The securities research institute where Jiang Xiaohan worked was on the sixteenth floor. She had once half-jokingly asked her mentor why the office had to be set so high up.
Her mentor, Ren Guotao, replied in the same playful tone: perhaps it was to keep analysts clear-headed when writing reports, so they could go up to the rooftop for some fresh air.
She hadn’t taken it seriously, but inwardly she complained: they’re so worried about keeping us alert, but aren’t they afraid we’ll feel too much pressure?
In truth, the divisions within the different business units had nothing to do with such concerns. It was all in order to adhere to the "firewall" principle.
To prevent the leakage of significant non-public information, the company not only separated the Strategic Investment Department and the Securities Research Institute by a great distance and provided different cafeterias, but even the elevators used by each were distinct, requiring access cards for entry and exit.
Stepping out of the elevator, she was greeted by the bold letters: "GS Securities Research Institute."
Pushing open the glass door and entering, Jiang Xiaohan suddenly remembered that her workspace was further inside, and except for employees, no one could enter without visitor approval.
Feeling a bit apologetic, she turned to Lin Luyou and said, “Would you mind waiting here for a while? Or you could use the empty conference room next door.”
Having grown accustomed to the lively yet cozy atmosphere at Max’s office, Lin Luyou found this place somewhat stifling. She shook her head and replied, “Never mind, sitting here doing nothing won’t do me any good. I might as well wander downstairs... I’ve been coming to work for a week, and I haven’t really explored yet.”
“What’s there to see? It’s pitch dark outside. If you want to look around, let’s find a time during the day when we’re both free, and I’ll show you around!”
With that, Jiang Xiaohan hurried off to submit her meeting materials, saying no more.
Lin Luyou had thought of returning to the café, but it was a bit too far, and she didn’t feel like trekking back and forth. After thinking it over, she “reluctantly” decided to stay put.

Meanwhile, on the other side.
After Lin Luyou left, the remaining customers in the shop had also dwindled away. Xiao Song, the employee, was just about to tidy up the tables and chairs when Qin Shishen urged him mercilessly to clock out.
“As a boss, you never think about making money by squeezing every bit of value out of me, but instead you’re always eager for me to leave early.”
Though Xiao Song sounded as if he were complaining, he wasted no time in taking off his work uniform.
“Please, what value do you have left to squeeze?” A female voice cut in.
With a running start, she leapt and landed on Qin Shishen’s back. “Surprise!”
Neither of the two men seemed at all shocked by her sudden attack. Xiao Song looked at her, and when Qin Shishen pulled her down, he could only say helplessly, “Well, you two siblings are always picking on me.”
“That’s not my fault. It’s because you’re so nar~cis~sistic~!”
“Fine, I can’t win an argument with you.” Whenever Xiao Song and Qin Shiguang met, they bantered, but after five or six years, the times he’d come out on top could be counted on one hand.
He sped up his tidying, grabbed his bag, and slipped out the door. “I’ll head off now—you two take your time catching up!”
If Qin Shishen exuded steadiness, his younger sister Qin Shiguang was all restlessness and mischief. Apart from their looks, the siblings shared little in common.
But ever since Qin Shiguang entered the police academy, cut her hair short, and her skin took on a healthy bronze from training in the sun, even their resemblance had faded.
Once Xiao Song had left, the polite mask Qin Shishen always wore fell away in an instant. His whole demeanor turned cold, an air of negativity enveloping him.
“What brings you here?”
