Chapter 085: Encounter with the Senior
By a stroke of luck, as Tang Xiao and Lin Luoyou stepped into the elevator, they found themselves face to face with the tall Cai Yuyao. Standing beside her were two gentlemen.
“What a coincidence!” Tang Xiao greeted them cheerfully, nudging Lin Luoyou at her side with her elbow to introduce her. “Look, this is the newcomer to our team. Just this morning, I was saying we should bring her around so you all could get to know her.”
Lin Luoyou smiled, her two dimples showing as she greeted them as well.
Since fate had brought them together, the five of them quickly agreed to try the restaurant’s new pickled fish dish, served in a bowl said to be bigger than a washbasin.
During the meal, Cai Yuyao became inquisitive, peppering Lin Luoyou with questions:
“You haven’t graduated yet, right? Which university are you from?”
“I’m at A University, majoring in finance.”
“That’s impressive!” Cai Yuyao couldn’t help but exclaim when she heard the major. After all, A University’s finance program was the hardest to get into, followed only by computer science. Speaking of which, her gaze shifted to Cheng Yu, and she gave the tip of his shoe a light kick.
“Come to think of it, weren’t you at A University too?”
“Yeah, but how did you know?” Cheng Yu replied, a little surprised. He had joined the company through a public recruitment, and couldn’t recall ever mentioning it.
“Hello, senior!” Lin Luoyou hurriedly greeted him.
If meeting a fellow townsman in a strange land brings tears to the eyes, then encountering an alumnus in the workplace is enough to wet one’s sleeves with emotion.
“Oh, no need for that. I’ve been out of school for years, practically an old-timer now,” Cheng Yu replied with a wave of his hand.
Their team leader, Ding Tongyu, sat quietly to one side, neither joining in nor paying attention, his focus fixed on his phone.
Once they’d thoroughly “interrogated” Lin Luoyou about her background, the conversation drifted back to food. At this point, Cheng Yu excused himself from the group chat, leaving the two Tang sisters engrossed in lively conversation.

Lin Luoyou kept thinking about her template, which she hadn’t yet tested with real data. As soon as the afternoon work hours began, she quickly opened her computer and experimented with the dataset used to select items for the big promotion pool.
Seeing that none of the formulas returned errors, she finally let out a slow breath of relief.
“Xiaoxiao, I just tested it—the template works fine. Now we’re just waiting for Yuyao to send the data,” Lin Luoyou said as she packaged up the template and sent it to Tang Xiao’s email.
After receiving it, Tang Xiao considered for a moment, then called Cheng Li over as well.
“Okay, let’s divide up the work. Each of you pick four categories to handle, and I’ll do the rest. It’s now... two o’clock in the afternoon.”
Tang Xiao glanced at the time. “The data should arrive by two thirty, so make sure you finish your parts and send them to me by four thirty, no later than five at the very latest.”
Worried that the newcomers might not be fully familiar with the process, Tang Xiao gave them an extra half-hour as a buffer. After assigning the tasks, she waved them off to get started.
Reaching for her water cup, Lin Luoyou found it empty. She pursed her lips and got up to head toward the pantry.
Seeing the direction Lin Luoyou had gone, Cheng Li thought for a moment, then picked up her own cup and quickly followed.
“What were you doing with Tang Xiao this morning?” Cheng Li asked casually as she washed her cup in the pantry.
“This morning? We went to discuss requirements with colleagues from the Data Analysis Department.”
“Just to discuss requirements?” As if realizing her question was a bit abrupt, Cheng Li smiled awkwardly. “Don’t get me wrong... It’s just that you two were gone for quite a while, and I didn’t see either of you at lunch. So I was just curious.”
