Chapter 094: Emergency Situation
No one felt particularly good after being chewed out by the boss.
In a foul mood, Gu Yao could only use the discussion as an excuse to vent her anger on Tang Xiao and the others. After all, the reason things had come to this was not only due to the people in the user operations team; Tang Xiao and the other two shared part of the blame as well. There was no reason for her alone to be publicly scolded by the boss.
“All right, all right, Gu Yao, calm down.” Seeing the situation heading south, Chen Xujia hurriedly stepped in to smooth things over. “There really is some responsibility on our side too, since there is indeed a problem with the product pool.”
As she spoke, Chen Xujia took the mouse from Liu Sang and began scrolling through the data line by line.
Lin Luyou, Tang Xiao, and Cheng Li stared unblinkingly at the figures as well, their minds racing to figure out what could have caused this.
“How about this: copy the data for us first. We’ll go back and study it ourselves. We’ll give you an answer before tonight’s event starts. Would that work?”
“Tonight? That timing…” Wasn’t it far too tight?
Tang Xiao wanted to drag the deadline out a little longer, but before she could finish, she caught a warning look from Chen Xujia. With no choice, she swallowed the rest of her words.
After a long round of persuasion, they finally managed to appease Gu Yao, who had come in demanding answers. She tossed out a final, “We’ll be waiting for your response before the end of the workday,” then stormed off with her assistant in tow.
“Well, then. We originally had almost twelve hours before the sale started, and now she’s changed it to the end of the workday with one sentence? She cut four hours out without even telling us. Who does she think she is?”
Now that everyone in the conference room was from her own team, Tang Xiao no longer held back. She put her hands on her hips and complained openly. After all, this plan had already been reviewed with the user operations team last week, and they had been full of praise for it then.
It could be said that the current mess was a shared responsibility between both sides. But after Gu Yao had come in and made such a scene, it made everything look as though the entire blame belonged to the product operations team.
What was more, Tang Xiao was a member of product operations, not user operations. What gave Gu Yao the right to order her around so directly? Thinking of that only made Tang Xiao angrier. “So she’s the only one allowed to have a temper? I’m angry too!”
“Why don’t you settle down for a bit? I never realized you had such a fiery temper. If you’ve got the energy, why not hurry up and look into the cause?”
Chen Xujia’s expression was not exactly pleasant either. She patted Tang Xiao on the back to soothe her, then signaled Lin Luyou and Cheng Li with a look to get back to work. After that, she returned to deal with her own tasks. The presale would begin tonight, and as team leader, she had plenty on her plate.
After venting for a while, Tang Xiao finally cooled off.
“Um, you two bring the laptops over. Since they’ve already booked the conference room, we might as well make use of it.”
Cheng Li and Lin Luyou exchanged a glance, then went out together.
“Hey, do you have any ideas?” Lin Luyou asked as they headed back.
“You’re asking me? No clue. I still think there’s nothing wrong with the scoring criteria we set.”
“Me neither... I think our logic is pretty sound.”
From the data she had just examined, Lin Luyou still could not see what had caused the experimental group’s numbers to be so much worse. By rights, their considerations were quite human-centered, and should have encouraged more spending.
“You two should talk about what you think,” Tang Xiao said when they returned to the conference room with the laptops. She was once again poring over the data from the top.
“I think... there’s something wrong with the age range we targeted. Clothes and products for infants and toddlers are bought by their parents, while the other products should all match customers in each respective age bracket. We forcibly changed the fit of that age range ourselves, which is turning the cart before the horse and heading in the wrong direction.”
