Chapter Eight: The Restoration Surgery
“Ms. Chen, please calm down first,” Xiao Yuru explained patiently. “I told you before, your nose has already undergone two surgeries. If you don't mind continuing, I’ve explained every detail of the procedure to you truthfully. If you’re dissatisfied, our hospital can proceed with further repairs. Causing a scene won't solve the problem.”
“Repair? Repair my foot!” Chen Lu tore off her bandage, fuming. “Look what you’ve done to my nose!”
Her nose was not only crooked but also red and swollen.
“How could this happen?”
Xiao Yuru’s expression grew serious. Chen Lu’s nose even showed a slight discharge of pus, which meant it was not just crooked, but inflamed as well.
“This shouldn’t have happened; when you were discharged, there were no such issues.”
“What do you mean, ‘shouldn’t have happened’? I’m only twenty years old! How am I supposed to face people like this?”
Now even Xiao Yuru was starting to panic.
This was already Chen Lu’s third nose surgery. If she needed another fix, it would be her fourth. The nose was now fragile, and the difficulty had increased considerably. At this point, Xiao Yuru herself was not confident anymore.
“Yuru, shouldn’t the hospital be handling this issue? Why are they pinning it on you?” Liu Yiran saw through the situation; it was clear the hospital didn’t want trouble and pushed all responsibility onto Xiao Yuru.
“Who are you? What business is it of yours?” The man behind Chen Lu stepped forward, attempting to shove Liu Yiran.
“Brother, speak properly. Acting rashly won’t solve anything,” Ye Qiu stepped between them, calmly facing the man ready to cause trouble.
“Solve your crap!” The man swung a fist directly at Ye Qiu.
“Yezi—” Xiao Yuru cried out, rushing over, but in the next instant, Ye Qiu twisted the man’s arm behind his back and kicked his calf. The man dropped to one knee, yelping incoherently, “Kid, do you know who I am? You’re dead… Ow, it hurts…”
Ye Qiu applied a bit more force, and the man cried out again.
“I don't care who you are. I just want to know if you can speak properly now.”
“You—damn, fine… Ow… I’ll speak properly, just let go and we’ll talk.”
Ye Qiu released him, but the man immediately grabbed Ye Qiu’s legs, trying to flip him over his shoulder. In a flash, Ye Qiu spun a full circle and tossed the man away.
Boom.
The man crashed heavily into the reception desk. If Ye Qiu hadn’t known he was just an ordinary person and held back, that blow would have left him crippled, if not dead.
“I told you to speak properly,” Ye Qiu dusted off his hands and walked up to Xiao Yuru. “Second Sister, Big Sister is right. This is the hospital’s responsibility. I think the hospital itself needs to step forward and resolve this.”
Xiao Yuru frowned. “Right now, there’s only one person in the whole city who can perform this kind of repair surgery—Professor Duan.”
“She’s correct.” Professor Duan had appeared beside the corridor, arms folded, watching the drama unfold.
“But my surgeries are booked until next month. Besides, I’m just a professor hired by the hospital for operations. If I don’t want to do it, even Boss Wu can’t order me.”
Liu Yiran said, “I’ll pay. I’ll send her to Korea for repair.”
Xiao Yuru shook her head. “This isn’t about money.”
“Dr. Xiao is right,” Professor Duan said with a mocking glance at Liu Yiran. “If she can’t fix it, no cosmetic hospital will dare employ her in the future.”
With a cold expression, Professor Duan looked at them. “Funny, isn’t it? In this city, I’m the only one who can perform this repair surgery. Not so funny—I’m in a bad mood, so I won’t operate.”
“I’ll find someone,” Liu Yiran refused to compromise.
Having been CEO for so long, she knew one thing well: no one is irreplaceable.
“Go ahead,” Professor Duan shrugged. “As I said, once Xiao Yuru’s reputation is ruined, no one will dare seek her out.”
“Second Sister, do you trust me?” Ye Qiu looked seriously at Xiao Yuru.
Without hesitation, Xiao Yuru nodded.
Ye Qiu turned to Chen Lu. “Come back tomorrow. I promise your nose will be fixed.”
“Why should I believe you?”
“I’m the CEO of Ye Liu Group. If my second sister’s surgery has any issues, I’ll charter a plane to send you to Korea.”
“You’re really President Liu of Ye Liu Group?” Chen Lu looked at Liu Yiran in disbelief. Among all the listed companies in the city, Liu Yiran’s beauty and intelligence were legendary. Countless women idolized her.
Chen Lu quickly searched on her phone.
Sure enough, she soon found Liu Yiran’s profile picture.
Professor Duan sneered, “Miss, you’d better think carefully. One day is hardly enough—even a god couldn’t pull it off. If your nose isn’t fixed this time, there will be no way to repair it in the future.”
Chen Lu hesitated.
She wasn’t sure if she should trust Xiao Yuru.
Even with Liu Yiran’s guarantee, her nose was her own. Even if Liu Yiran paid for it, how could she ever face people with a crooked nose?
“Old man, don’t think you can throw your weight around just because you’ve mastered a little technique. People like you, disrespectful and arrogant with age, ought to be put out of their misery,” Ye Qiu glared fiercely at Professor Duan. “Besides, repairing a nose isn’t that hard. One day is plenty.”
“Yezi,” Xiao Yuru tugged at Ye Qiu, nervously shaking her head.
Ye Qiu was an outsider, but Xiao Yuru herself knew that while Professor Duan’s character was questionable, his skills were impeccable. He was renowned in the city’s cosmetic surgery circles. Many clinic owners would invite him for operations.
If Xiao Yuru failed to fix Chen Lu’s nose, she could forget about working in the city’s cosmetic surgery industry.
“Second Sister, trust me.”
Professor Duan sneered, “I can understand young people wanting to show off. Dr. Xiao, think carefully. Don’t let a pretty face make you dizzy and risk your entire career.”
“Old man, what if my second sister learns the repair surgery in one day?” Ye Qiu challenged.
Professor Duan burst out laughing. “If Dr. Xiao can master the repair surgery in one day, I’ll call her ‘Professor’ from now on.”
“No need. My second sister doesn’t like that title,” Ye Qiu locked eyes with Professor Duan. “Let’s set the limit—one day. If my second sister repairs her nose, you must stand here and shout three times, ‘Aunt Xiao, I’m convinced!’”
The female consultant couldn’t help but laugh.
Making an old man call Dr. Xiao ‘Aunt’—that would kill Professor Duan’s pride.
Professor Duan’s face darkened. “And if she fails?”
“Then Xiao Yuru will never touch a scalpel again.”
Though she didn’t know why Ye Qiu was so confident, Xiao Yuru chose to trust him unconditionally.
“Such a good deal,” Professor Duan’s eyes roamed over Xiao Yuru, his lips curling with amusement. “If she fails, Xiao Yuru will work as my assistant for three years, free of charge.”
