Promise (Please, friends passing by, spare a glance)

I just had a chat with my editor, and to be honest, the number of readers following this book is dismal—so much so that it doesn’t even qualify for a trial recommendation. All I can do is speed up the updates and reach two hundred thousand words by next week, in hopes of getting a somewhat inferior recommendation slot.

To tell the truth, I feel deeply discouraged. A few friends who followed me from my previous book should know that I spent a long time preparing for this one and accumulated a large stockpile of drafts. Even now, I still have over a hundred thousand words and dozens of chapters set aside—drafts I managed to prepare even while writing two books at once. It truly took a lot of time and effort.

There are many foreshadowings and plot setups I haven’t had a chance to explore yet. The main character, Li Xueshu, Qi Fangyan, Zhou Wei—each of them has their own underlying story. This book is not a harem novel, nor is it entangled with romantic subplots; every unusual detail has its reason.

It’s especially disheartening, yet there’s nothing I can do.

I’m unwilling to give up, extremely unwilling.

I don’t want to abandon this book, nor do I want to use it merely to meet the minimum requirements for full attendance.

I refuse to believe this book is as bad as the numbers suggest.

I know full well that before this book goes up for sale, it’s impossible for me to get any good recommendations, and I don’t expect stellar pre-sale collection numbers either.

When the book is released, no matter how dismal the collection count is—even if it doesn’t reach two thousand—

As long as the ratio of collections to subscriptions can hit fifteen to one, I’ll continue writing ten thousand words a day!

If it reaches twenty to one, I’ll write six thousand words a day!

There may be very few readers who followed me from my last book, since I know subscriptions for the old one have already hit rock bottom, but you should know I do have some integrity.

For my very first book, I earned two daily ten-thousand-word badges, managing to pull subscriptions from a mere hundred to over a thousand. The second book fared poorly, but I still earned a daily ten-thousand-word badge, and even after I started writing two books at once and my update speed dropped, I still managed nearly five thousand words a day and never missed an update.

This is all the credibility I have left.
