Post-Release Speech for a Flpped Author
Official release at 12:00 PM on May 18, 2018.
That is tomorrow noon. There will be a minimum of five chapters and up to ten chapters released. I sincerely ask for your subscriptions and support!
Having written this book for over two months, I feel that original Xianxia themes are still rather difficult. Readers overwhelmingly favor mainstream trends like mimicking the Mortal Cultivation style or infinite dimension-hopping adventures. Otherwise, it is quite hard for a new author to stand out, save for the veteran grandmasters. Industry peers have repeatedly told me that fantasy and Xianxia have always been the exclusive territory of established giants.
Everyone thought this book would flop and advised me to drop it, urging me to start a new project in popular genres like primeval deity myths or multiverse travels. However, I cannot write primeval myths, and multiverse travels would probably give me a massive headache.
Perhaps I am destined to remain hopelessly trapped within my own little world. That is why those chapters releasing tomorrow feel a bit surreal to me, even though I have already revised them several times. If it flops, so be it—it is not like I have never flopped before... At any rate, I will keep writing.
To be honest, seeing other authors achieve initial subscriptions of a thousand, three thousand, or even tens of thousands, it is impossible not to feel envious. But envy is useless; as a struggling novice, I at least have that much self-awareness. Slow and steady it is! I plan to complete this novel at around two million words, and my next project might be a standalone ghost-themed story (not a scary one, mind you), carrying on the lore established in this book.
After the official release, I will maintain a schedule of three chapters per day. Previously, because I was holding out for better promotional placement like a major category recommendation, I was reduced to a slow-poke posting only once a day for over ten days. I kindly ask my readers to forgive me for that.
Finally, for those who can afford it, I beg for your subscription support; for those who cannot, I kindly ask for comments and engagement.
Respectfully yours, a struggling author.
