Chapter 100: The Terrifying Wave

With the appearance of the enormous sea monster, the storm at sea grew even fiercer, accompanied by heavy rain and thunder. The entire ocean surface was churned into towering waves, dozens of meters high, raging wildly. Facing such overwhelming natural forces, the sea vessel seemed as fragile and vulnerable as a newborn infant, nearly being overturned by a single wave.

Yet, miraculously, the ship weaved through the towering waves, sometimes even riding directly atop them, narrowly escaping disaster at every turn without capsizing. The people onboard felt no turbulence at all.

Still, this ordeal terrified everyone aboard. All around was a white blur—either pouring rain or towering waves. Most terrifying of all was the colossal sea monster with its pair of monstrous eyes fixed intently on the ship. Its crimson gaze was fierce and savage, as if it would swallow the entire vessel whole at any moment.

Ordinary people had never seen such a dreadful creature. Even seasoned sailors might never encounter anything like this in their entire lives. Some had already collapsed in terror on the deck; those who remained standing trembled so much they could barely speak, silently praying for divine protection.

“It’s a strange-eyed dragonfish,” Xiaohuai raised her eyebrows. “The strange-eyed dragonfish always appears amid storms and thunder; it’s the overlord of the deep sea. This one is a millennium-old demon at its peak.”

A cold, clear voice spoke, and Fang Yue felt the oppressive pressure weighing on him ease slightly. He looked up gratefully at the white figure ahead. Though it wasn’t a major event, being subdued by someone’s aura was stifling.

Lin Qingmiao did not turn back, but since she had leisure to speak and even helped defuse the situation, Fang Yue knew she was confident in handling the gigantic sea monster.

“Sister, I’ll deal with this ugly fish,” Xiaohuai said hastily.

Lin Qingmiao shook her head. “I’ll take care of it. You focus on protecting everyone on the ship. And don’t bully Young Master Fang.”

“So you’re just going to guard them?” Xiaohuai muttered discontentedly. But she didn’t cause any trouble for Fang Yue, only shooting him a fierce glare.

Fang Yue chose to ignore her. He had already figured out that Xiaohuai was the type whose spirit grew stronger the more attention she received.

After saying this, Lin Qingmiao’s body suddenly floated up, standing gracefully in midair before the strange-eyed dragonfish.

“An immortal… an immortal!” someone aboard shouted.

Floating aloft, ethereal and serene, she truly looked like a celestial being.

“We’re saved, saved!” others cried out.

Fang Yue gazed upward, dizzy and entranced, his heart surging. To stand unsupported in midair—what exquisite grace. And the enormous monstrous fish, a millennial demon at peak power, was equivalent to a martial saint at its prime.

Its arrival amid stormy waves, heavy rain, and thunder was an awe-inspiring spectacle.

“When will I be able to stand like that, to live up to this life?” Fang Yue sighed, though a flicker of worry for Lin Qingmiao stirred within him.

Though he knew she was confident, the contrast between their sizes was stark—one hundreds of meters long, capable of churning up giant waves with a mere turn; the other no taller than a few feet, an ordinary human stature. This disparity naturally bred concern.

Lin Qingmiao stood midair, clad in flowing white robes, enchanting beyond words. The torrential rain could not dampen a single thread of her garment.

Opposite her loomed the terrifying sea monster, with the tempestuous waves it stirred and occasional flashes of lightning. This stark contrast painted a strange yet memorable scene.

The strange-eyed dragonfish roared in fury upon seeing someone block its path, its voice thunderous and eerie, reminiscent of a steam whistle’s blast, deafening all nearby.

Xiaohuai, seeing the dragonfish fixate on her as its target, was instantly enraged, stomping in fury.

“Do you think I’m easy to mess with? This ugly fish dares come try to eat me! If my sister doesn’t step in, I’ll swallow you whole!” Her burst of anger unsettled her aura, causing the ship to sway violently amidst the storm, knocking people sprawling across the deck.

Xiaohuai paid little mind to the chaos. She cared nothing for the lives of those aboard; her duty was simply to protect them as her sister instructed. Scrapes and bruises were trivial so long as no one died.

Though she shouted defiantly, she did not actually charge at the monster. She was no match for it in its own domain.

Turning, Xiaohuai sought a target to vent her anger upon.

“Hey, Fang, why are you hanging back?” she called out.

“May I ask what you mean, miss?” Fang Yue replied politely, having decided not to provoke this troublemaker and to go along with her.

“Miss? Do I have no name?”

“Forgive me for not asking your noble name...”

“You scholars are all unreliable, never satisfied! Now that my sister is here, you still want to know my name?” With that, Xiaohuai slapped a palm through the air, knocking Fang Yue down onto the deck.
