Chapter 115: Can Spoiled Food Drive People Mad?
Ye Chen observed the chaos inside the first-floor dining room of the neighboring house. Chairs lay overturned, bowls shattered, and food and soup splattered across the floor. A woman straddled a man’s stomach, her slender arm raised high clutching a kitchen knife, poised to plunge it mercilessly into the man’s forehead.
As an experienced knife wielder, Ye Chen could sense the lethal resolve behind the thrust—unyielding, ruthless, without the slightest hesitation. Such a strike could only stem from profound hatred or a desperate battle for survival.
The woman truly intended to kill this man.
At the entrance to the dining room, a little girl in pajamas knelt, clutching the doorframe and crying wretchedly, likely shocked by the horrific scene before her. Small and powerless, she could only release her fear through tears.
In the next moment, the man grabbed the woman’s wrist tightly, and the two struggled. Whether it was the sharp shards piercing his back or the shock of the sudden attack, his face twisted in pain and fear.
The knife tip descended slowly.
The ceaseless cries seemed to irritate the woman. She turned her fierce glare toward the sobbing girl by the doorframe, her face contorted with fury, unrecognizable even to her own kin.
“This is bad... the woman’s gone mad. She might attack the little girl next.”
With a sudden leap and a loud bang, Ye Chen threw his hands forward and vaulted straight through the first-floor window of the neighboring house, leaving the balcony railing trembling behind him.
Glass shattered with a crash onto the floor.
Before the trio inside could react, Ye Chen rolled forward to absorb some of the impact. Without fully rising, he bent his knees and pushed off the ground powerfully, launching himself like a cannonball.
He flew over the knife-wielding woman’s head, reaching out to grab her wrist and topple her along with the knife.
Her fighting was instinctive, lacking any skill. She dropped the knife and lunged at him with claw-like hands, aiming for his neck.
If facing a beast of equal strength, Ye Chen could think of at least ten ways to strangle it within a second and use the most efficient one with minimal effort.
But against this irrational woman, he merely shifted his body slightly and swept his foot.
While she was airborne, Ye Chen’s hand chopped down to her neck.
“Thud!”
The woman landed safely but fainted, her face settling into calm once more.

Ye Chen found some rope and expertly bound the woman’s hands and feet with a reverse wrist tie, cautious of another outburst. As he admired his handiwork, he muttered to himself, "What the hell am I doing, tying her up like this..."
The little girl clutched the man’s arm and, seeing the glass shards embedded in his back, puckered her lips, about to cry again.
Ye Chen pulled out a first aid kit and skillfully treated the man’s wound as he asked, “Is this your daughter? Can you tell me what happened?”
The man, still shaken, stood up and fished a bottle of liquor from a cabinet. Shaking, he unscrewed the cap, gulped down several swigs, then staggered back to sit.
His voice was hoarse, as if strained from shouting: “Last night, I went out for business... drank too much... and then... then...”
Ye Chen glanced at the cabinet filled with all kinds of fancy liquor bottles and, seeing the man’s hesitant expression, guessed the story and interrupted, “Don’t tell me what happened next just yet. The child’s here. Continue from after that.”
The man looked at Ye Chen, then softly turned to the little girl, “My name is Meng She, and this is my daughter, Niuniu.
“Niuniu, last night Daddy worked late. When I woke up this morning, I went straight to work again.”
“Daddy, you work so hard!” Niuniu’s clear voice still trembled with tears.
Ugh... what a scumbag!
Ye Chen stared expressionlessly. “Cut the act. Get to the point!”
The man’s rough face flushed, then quickly paled and continued, “I stayed late at work again today, but I made it home before you and your mother fell asleep.
“When I came in, my daughter went straight to her room, but her mother—the woman who just tried to stab me—was still awake.
“I saw her sitting blankly at the dining table, probably waiting for me. But even when I entered, she didn’t look up.
“I thought she was angry, so I went over to comfort her.
“Then... she suddenly exploded, pushed me to the ground, and tried to stab me.
“We wrestled on the floor. I told her to stop, but she wouldn’t listen.
“Then you busted in.”
What do you mean I busted in? I shouldn’t have come, you jerk deserved to get stabbed! If I were the woman, I might not have stabbed you, but breaking your legs would be basic.

Niuniu, still in pajamas, ran over and tugged at Ye Chen’s pant leg. At that moment, he suddenly thought of Egg Tart Sister.
Ye Chen crouched down to meet Niuniu’s tearful eyes and spoke gently, “What’s wrong, little Niuniu?”
Niuniu sniffled and explained for someone, “Mom is usually very nice to Daddy and me, not scary at all. What’s wrong with Mom today?
“Mom must have eaten some bad candy. She’s sick.
“Waa... it’s all Niuniu’s fault. Niuniu should have eaten the candy sooner, then none of this would have happened!”
Ye Chen stroked her soft hair, thinking how pure children’s hearts are. He soothed her quietly, “Yes, that’s right. Don’t eat anything that’s gone bad. Always throw it away.”
After saying this, he cast an unfriendly glance at the man, who was grimacing in pain and drinking to dull it.
After some effort, Niuniu’s father finally coaxed her back to bed, while Ye Chen helped tidy up the mess.
He noticed the drafty window but had no intention of paying for it.
As he left, with a small packet of cookies Niuniu had given him in his pocket—she had earnestly told him not to wait until they spoiled—Ye Chen turned back to Niuniu’s father.
“Keep her tied up tonight. I’m worried she might lose control again. Let her get a good sleep.
“By the way, you’re a grown man, but you’re no match for your wife’s strength. You’re in a precarious spot.
“Women are sensitive. After all the bad things you’ve done these past days, the resentment might have piled up. You’d better watch yourself.”
Niuniu’s father awkwardly saw Ye Chen to the door, muttering thanks, clearly eager for him to leave.
Then the troublemaker smirked and added with a wink, “Oh, by the way, I’m Ye Chen. I just moved in next door. Your new neighbor.
“If you need anything, just call me!”
With that, he turned and walked toward his own house, leaving the scumbag alone and disheveled in the wind.
