Chapter Forty-Seven: The Search
Page 1
I knew that finding the cat demon within seven days would not be an easy task. But Fatty’s life hangs by a thread, and only the cat demon can save him. All the more reason not to search blindly. We must think of a way to lure her out.
But how? That’s a difficult question. Meat? It didn’t seem reliable at all. So I asked Lin Wei Yan and the others if they had any good ideas.
Feng Zi Mo pondered for a moment and said, “Actually, it’s not hard to find the cat demon. As long as we have something she’s touched, I can follow the scent to her lair.”
“Brother Feng, I didn’t expect you to have such a skill! Of course we have things the cat demon has touched,” I replied.
Feng Zi Mo grinned slyly. “See, you almost underestimated your Brother Feng.”
I led Feng Zi Mo to the reception desk and let him sniff the blanket on the bed.
Without another word, he lifted the blanket and sniffed it.
“How is it?” I asked.
Feng Zi Mo suddenly gagged, his expression twisted in discomfort as he said, “When was this blanket last washed? It reeks—acrid and sour.”
What? No way.
“When I lay on the bed last night, I didn’t smell anything,” I said.
He didn’t bother to explain, just tossed the blanket at me.
I caught it and sniffed. The smell was indeed unpleasant, just as Feng Zi Mo had said.
If that’s the case, wouldn’t the scent the cat demon left behind be gone?
So I asked, “Is there still any trace of the cat demon’s scent on this blanket?”
Feng Zi Mo nodded. “There is, but not much. Still, it’s no problem for your Brother Feng.”
That was good news.
I asked Lin Wei Yan and Xiao Ling to stay at the hotel while Feng Zi Mo and I went out to search for the cat demon.
As we left, Lin Wei Yan repeatedly urged us to be careful.
I reassured her, “Don’t worry, nothing will happen,” and strode away.
Under Feng Zi Mo’s guidance, we walked through three streets.
When I finally couldn’t walk any further, I gasped, “Brother Feng, how much farther?”
Feng Zi Mo shook his head and looked back at me. “I don’t know either. But Brother Chu Yun, your stamina is pretty weak—barely a few streets and you’re already exhausted?”
I was speechless. After all, I’m only human.

Being able to run through three streets in one breath is already impressive, isn’t it?
I said to Feng Zi Mo, “Brother Feng, you have to remember, I’m human.”
He chuckled mischievously. “Right, if you hadn’t said it, I would’ve forgotten.”
Damn…
This old rascal—his words had another meaning. Wasn’t he indirectly mocking me?
I kicked at him. “Brother Feng, you’ve picked up some bad habits.”
He quickly dodged and laughed, “Quit fooling around, we’ve got business to attend to.”
We searched a few more streets, when Feng Zi Mo suddenly stopped.
Before us was a seafood market, bustling as it was midday.
Looking at the crowds, could the cat demon be hiding among them?
If so, things might get tricky. If we acted rashly, innocent people could get hurt.
But the cat demon wasn’t likely to escape, so I said to Feng Zi Mo, “We can’t act recklessly now, just follow her.”
He looked at me in surprise. “Brother Chu Yun, what are you talking about?”
What?
“The cat demon isn’t in there?” I asked.
Feng Zi Mo was speechless. “Who said the cat demon is in there?”
I was dumbfounded.
So the cat demon wasn’t inside the market?
“Why did you stop here if she’s not inside?” I demanded.
Feng Zi Mo replied, “It’s almost lunchtime, and I wanted to find a place for you to eat.”
Hearing this, I nearly fainted. At a time like this, Fatty was waiting in the hospital for us to save him.
“I’m not hungry. Let’s focus on finding the cat demon,” I said.
Feng Zi Mo shrugged. “Alright. Anyway, I can go three days without eating.”
We continued to track the cat demon’s scent, searching all afternoon but still found no trace.
It was as if the cat demon knew we were searching, always moving.
Soon, night would fall.
“Brother Feng, can we hurry up?” I asked.
Feng Zi Mo walked on, replying, “I could move faster, but you might not keep up.”
“No problem. Go ahead, just leave me some markers along the way,” I said.

Feng Zi Mo nodded. “Alright, I’ll go ahead.”
With that, he vanished like the wind.
I followed his markers, pressing onward.
I had to admit, Feng Zi Mo was fast—if I had his speed, I could probably dodge bullets.
By now, night had fallen completely.
I arrived at a desolate village near Qingyun Mountain. There were no streetlights, only a few homes with faint lights.
The further I walked, the more forlorn it felt. I never expected such a rundown village near Qingyun Mountain.
I quickened my pace, feeling an inexplicable unease about the place, though I couldn’t put my finger on it.
Suddenly, an old woman appeared ahead, hunched and leaning on a cane.
She seemed to materialize out of nowhere—there hadn’t been a soul on the road moments before.
Soon, we passed each other.
“Young man, why so hurried? There’s no road ahead,” she said.
I stopped, puzzled—there was clearly a road out of the village ahead.
Why did she say there was no road? What did she mean?
Looking at her back, I asked, “Why do you say that, ma’am?”
She tapped her cane twice on the ground. “Can’t you see? Up ahead is the field of unmarked graves.”
I was even more confused. The road ahead was straight and clear—how could it be a field of graves?
Was the old woman mentally unstable? Or simply senile?
Just as I was about to ignore her, she suddenly turned around.
I saw clearly—the old woman’s face was that of a cat.
This sight instantly recalled a movie I’d seen: The Old Cat-faced Lady.
This old woman must be the cat demon.
But why did she look different from the cat demon I’d seen last night?
No time to worry about that. I gripped the Mirror of Heaven and Earth.
“You’re the cat demon, aren’t you?”
The old woman let out a meow, baring her teeth in a sinister smile.
Her laughter was chilling…
Then she lunged at me.
