Chapter Forty-Nine: The Twin-Tailed Scorpion
The young woman nodded at me, indicating that I was right.
I introduced the names of everyone in our group, then asked her, “Yesterday you said Fatty was poisoned by a scorpion?”
“Yes, and not just any scorpion—the deadliest kind, the Two-tailed Scorpion,” Xiao Xiao replied.
A Two-tailed Scorpion?
This was the first time I’d ever heard of such a thing. In my impression, don’t all scorpions have just one tail?
So I turned to Xiao Xiao and asked, “The Two-tailed Scorpion you mentioned—is it also a demon?”
“That’s right,” Xiao Xiao said. “Aside from our Cat Demon clan, there are two other major demon clans here, one of which is the Two-tailed Scorpions.”
She continued, “The Two-tailed Scorpion clan is highly devoted to cultivation and rarely interacts with others. Why they targeted your friend this time is a mystery.”
Feng Zimo, arms folded and looking exceptionally cool, spoke up, “Who cares why? Let’s just storm their lair and deal with it.”
Hearing Feng Zimo’s words, I thought to myself, this old rascal is showing off again.
“All right, Brother Feng! We’re having a serious discussion here, don’t make trouble,” I said.
But Feng Zimo ignored me and asked Xiao Xiao directly, “Miss Xiao Xiao, do you know where the Two-tailed Scorpions’ lair is?”
“I... I’m not sure either,” Xiao Xiao replied, glancing at Feng Zimo.
Even Xiao Xiao, who has lived here for a long time, didn’t know where the Two-tailed Scorpions’ lair was. That meant finding it would be even more difficult.
And then, how did Fatty get poisoned? He hadn’t noticed a thing himself, which was the greatest mystery. Could it be related to the girl he’d arranged to meet?
With that thought, I hurried over to the counter and turned on the computer. On the desktop, I found the “Fight the Landlord” game Fatty often played and clicked the login window.
Soon, I was in the game. Feng Zimo and the others looked at me with confusion, but no one spoke.
But I knew they must be wondering why I had time to play cards at a moment like this.
Honestly, I didn’t want to play either—my fate had changed because of this very game. But now, there was no other way. I could only try my luck; perhaps I’d stumble upon something unexpected.
I played for more than ten minutes, and my game points went from five hundred thousand down to just twenty or thirty thousand. If Fatty saw this, he’d probably be angry enough to cry.
Right now, I lost another round.
Suddenly, a message notification popped up.
I thought, finally, the fish has bitten the hook.
I opened the message, and a line appeared before my eyes:
“Is this really you????”
Seeing this, I replied without hesitation.
“Of course, what’s up, girl?” I typed back.
After I sent the message, the other side seemed to hesitate. It was a while before I got a reply: “Are you free to come tonight?”
I chuckled and typed on the keyboard, “Sure, is it the same place as the other night?”
She sent me a smiley face, then followed with an address.
I sent another message, asking what time.
She replied, ten o’clock, see you there, and added a kissing emoji.
I logged out of the game. By now, I was almost certain—on the other side was likely the Two-tailed Scorpion.
So I explained the situation to Lin Weiyan and the others, telling them to be ready.
In the afternoon, we paid another visit to the hospital. Fatty was still in a coma, showing no sign of waking. Even the medical bills had been covered by me, though the money was left by Old Jiang.
We left the hospital and returned to the hotel.
After nine that evening, I said to Lin Weiyan, “Weiyan, you and Xiaoling stay here and keep watch. Feng and Xiao Xiao will come with me.”
Though Lin Weiyan was a bit unhappy, she still listened.
At ten o’clock, as agreed, we arrived at the meeting place. It was an old residential complex, probably about to be demolished. Not many people lived here now, especially in the building before us.
Following the address, we went to the third floor.
I knocked lightly on the door of unit 304. Soon, a woman’s voice came from inside: “The door’s unlocked, come in.”
I signaled for Feng Zimo and Xiao Xiao to wait by the door.
I entered, but the living room was empty.
Strange.
Where was she? Had she sensed something and run off?
Just as I was thinking this, her voice came from the bedroom: “Darling, I’m in here.”
Following her voice, I opened the bedroom door.
The sight before me made my heart race wildly.
The woman was lying on her side on the bed in a bathrobe, her long, fair legs exposed.
This…
I stood there for a long moment, unable to speak, my heart thundering with excitement.
Seeing my stunned expression, the woman curled a finger at me invitingly.
Gazing at her alluring red lips, I thought, what man could resist this?
I was no different… I’d even forgotten what I’d come here to do, and, as if possessed, I walked toward her.
As I approached, she slowly undid the first button of her bathrobe.
Just as she was about to undo the second, my heart surged like a tidal wave, my eyes unwilling to blink, while a voice in my head kept shouting, “Take it off, take it off!”
But then she suddenly stopped.
In a sweet, coquettish voice she said, “Oh, you’re so naughty, come help me.”
I couldn’t hold back any longer.
In a few steps, I was by her side, and she pulled me onto the bed. Then, straddling me, she said softly, “Darling, I’ve missed you so much.”
I was like a man bewitched, my mind blank.
I let her hands roam over me…
Suddenly, her hand stopped at my chest and, in an instant, her nails grew sharp.
Her face turned cold as she spat, “Die!”
The sudden change happened in a heartbeat, impossible to guard against.
I couldn’t believe that, after being so careful, I’d still fallen for her trap. Shocked, I struggled, but she held me down; escape was impossible.
“Stop!” Feng Zimo burst into the room, his halberd leveled at her.
She flashed away from me.
I scrambled up, shaken. If Feng Zimo hadn’t come in time, I’d be doomed.
Looking at the woman in front of me, I knew Fatty must have been ensnared by her.
Tonight, no matter what, we couldn’t let her escape. I took out the Universe Mirror and said to Feng Zimo, “Brother Feng, catch her—she’s the Two-tailed Scorpion.”
Feng Zimo nodded, then looked at the Two-tailed Scorpion and said, “Are you going to surrender quietly, or do I have to do it myself?”
She laughed coquettishly. “That depends on whether you’re capable.”
As she finished speaking, her human form shifted into that of a giant scorpion.
Two long venomous tails lashed out at Feng Zimo.
